I'm feeling pleased with myself as despite feeling very tired I have opened an online savings account in DH's name, to be used as a VAT savings account. I've also transferred in the VAT component of the last two payments we've received from customers :T.
That's a good start anyway. We may have had some other payments in but I don't think I can afford to set aside the VAT from those yet.
Despite reminders from me, DH delayed sending the invoice to the new customer until the 26th, so we didn't get paid on the 28th April, and he thinks we may have to wait until 28th May now . DH said we can always live on the money in the Mr T savings accounts, but I said no that money is for emergencies and this is not an emergency. So we'll have to try and scrape by on what we have and what else he can earn. I feel really cross about it:mad:. Our emergency funds are untouchable in my mind. Once we start dipping into them for this and that the money will just disappear and we'll never replace it. DH sending in an invoice late is not an emergency. I haven't given DH his log in details for his new Mr T savings account and I'm not going to in case he's tempted to draw any out. I don't think he would without consulting me, but just in case.
Anyway it will focus our minds on not spending money and will focus DH's mind on earning money hopefully. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

How frustrating about the late invoice. I think you are right about not touching the savings if possible, if you do it once, it's easier to do it again."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Morning HHD
Hope you're feeling less tired and a bit more like yourself today. I love your strict approach with DH, maybe it will encourage him to submit his invoice on time in future
I think staying over in a hotel is a good option and I'd combine that with a central meeting point for family get-togethers as well. Better for everybody to drive for 30 mins each way than you driving 60 mins there and back.
Weather here is lovely if a bit cool, hope it's the same in your part of the country so you can have dry play. Have a good day. xx0 -

Morning Hairy,
Well done on your strict approach with the EF and DH, hope that encourages him to submit his invoice quicker next time.
Hope you feel a bit more rested this morning too.
Have a lovely day xx0 -

I just feel once the emergency fund has gone it's gone. At the moment there's a psychological barrier but if we dip into it once then we'll keep doing it. I just hope we can manage until we get paid.

Thanks TF2. I am very cross with DH because it's not as though I didn't remind him a couple of times to send it in .
I do think DH and I need to engineer our visits to family better so that we end us less exhausted. We need to be more selfish for our own good. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Thank you Purplemum. I know that once we start dipping into the EF it will disappear and not get replaced (we've been down that route more than once
) so that was why I opened the Mr T accounts, to make it less easy to dip in and create a psychological barrier. This is why the premium bonds are good too I think.
