Oh I remember the tie shop and the sock shop too now! I haven't seen any of them for years. They used to have branches in the trafford centre. x

I used to go into Chelsea Girl and try lots of clothes on but seldom buy anything
I don't remember the Sweater Shop but I used to like Benetton and their sweaters.
As a teenager when tie dye was 'in' for the first time round I tie dyed a few tee shirts which worked well and I was really proud of myself. I seem to remember it involved pebbles, string, rubber bands and those little tins of cold water dye in a bucket in the back garden - happy days
Yes I remember doing it that way too.

I loved Benetton and knew someone who had a Saturday job there and spent most of her time having to re-fold the sweaters that people had rummaged through:rotfl:.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I liked to be a bit 'different' in my own time. I think the 70s was my favourite era fashion-wise, although fashion experts now look upon it as the decade that style forgot:eek:
I used to do a lot of batik and made some lovely skirts from the fabric. They were more artistic than tie-dye and I knew no one would have one exactly the same. When I look back now at how I was then I'm amazed that I was so confident in expressing my individuality:o
You sounded very creative and a bit of a hippy :rotfl:.carbootcrazy wrote: »I love notebooks and pens too, Beanielou:j. I haven't a 'thing' for socks although I have a few quirkily patterned pairs that I've had for years and never worn yet. A friend used to love interesting socks and people always bought them for her as gifts. She said she had more pairs than she could ever wear in a lifetime and gave a lot away including some to me. Must see if I can remember where I put them, they'll be handy in this cold weather:jFinally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Today we're working on my business. We're not seeing stepdad as he's otherwise engaged!
So a quiet day at home. Just as well because I slept badly last night due to things stepdad was telling me about. Probably good to have a break from him today.
I'm looking forward to doing PPI clsims tomorrow :j and I also need to ring tax credits and update them with our income (which is lower than last year so maybe we'll get some money back?).Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Hopefully you will get some money back. I am so step dad issue is causing you sleep problems. That will only make things worse for you.xSeptember 2017 Debt = £25330

Sorry you're sleep patterns seem to be disturbed a lot these days, HH. Not surprising with all that's been going on in your life recently.
I can normally sleep through an earthquake but have been waking up after about an hour most nights recently because of the neuralgia. I know it isn't anything to do with my teeth because at my visit to the dentist last year (when I had to have a filling from my teenage years replaced because it just 'disappeared' taking a lot of the surrounding tooth with it:eek:) he did x-rays and said I had no other tooth problems:j. I get this neuralgia, like raging toothache in every tooth in one side of my jaw, every now and then in the winter if I've been out in the wind and cold. I try to keep a scarf round my lower face like a bank robber:rotfl: when I go out if the weather is really bad but it doesn't always stay put:(.
The painkillers I use have stopped making much impression, they certainly didn't last night, and I think I'll make an appointment with the GP tomorrow to see if she can prescribe something more heavy-duty. They're free on prescription as I'm an OAP (getting old does have some plus points;)) but the ones I buy myself at the chemist are pricey. Normal strength ones don't make any impression whatsoever:(. Sometimes the neuralgia only lasts a couple of weeks spread over several months but this year it's been pretty constant. I wouldn't normally think it worth taking up a GP's time with but having so little sleep on such a regular basis is making me lose all my energy for getting on and doing all the things that I need and want to do:(.
I hope the work on your business goes well today and that you sleep better tonight so you'll be full of energy to tackle the PPI tomorrow:beer:0 -

I would definitely go to your GP Carboot. It's very unpleasant to be in pain, especially if it's affecting your sleep. I hope your doctor gives you something that helps. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I don't remember any of these specialist shops, except Sock shop. Used to get the magazine Petticoat when I was in my teens, and lust after the fabulous clothes advertised that I could never afford !
When I went off to uni I discovered jumble sales - wonderful. I bought a long black velvet dress that I think was more of a collection of bits of fabric sewn together randomly, but the sheen on the velvet disguised the many seams ! I also bought a fur coat from another student for £3, kept it and loved it for 2 years, then sold it for £3 to another student !! My father swore we got turned away from a restaurant because of that coat.0
