. It does feel sensible to stock up when something I buy every week is half price and we do have a big freezer luckily to store it all.
But even if he knows he has chicken wire, the fact that he can't find it wouldn't prove you'd given it away. You could just say "Well I'm sure it's in there somewhere, if you didn't have so much stuff in there you'd be able to find it.":rotfl:.
That was exactly what I thought hh :T:T - although I also added that finding something for someone else is no reason to hoard carp. If it had been useful for the two of you I'd have been more inclined to be impressed. As mk says you dont live in a warehouse, you live in your home.
CBC If you have to lug this stuff out the shed - stuff you dont own, dont want, stuff you would get rid of , and have told him to get rid of - I would suggest you certainly dont lug it back in, leave it till he can do it himself if he wants it so much. Well I'd actually suggest you dont lug it out at all - see above 4 reasons - just leave it where it is and if roof can be fixed so be it, if it cant, so be it. The problem with stuff is you have to store it, maintain it, insure it, maintain the spaces it lives in etc etc. Its not yours, dont go lugging anything about that might end up hurting you. The price of him keeping stuff is he has to do all the above, the price of living the way you want ie without it is no shed to maintain, no money spent on chap to maintain (that should appeal:rotfl:) and no time wasted double lugging or going up the attic. (If you dont want to do that then dont either.) Sore thumb putting him out of action is literally the perfect time for him to have a think about how he intends to maintain it all in the years ahead.

. I don't know why but I feel a bit intimidated by the process, which is silly I know
so I need to get over that and get on with claiming.
I understand, I was exactly the same. Turned out we had paid it for a year on a mortgage then I realised when I got annual statement in and cancelled it. They still had my letter on file which backed up my claim that we would never have wanted such a thing and we got a few hundred back for the one year we had paid it but the big bonus was the interest they had to pay us !!! Was better than having had that money in the bank.
So go on do it. Use this as a better rate of return than surveys even if you end up spending half a week gathering bits of paper with addresses and account numbers etc.
Set up a few folders or areas on your bed or somewhere and as you find things add them to the relevant pile. Send off the letters once you have it all as you will end up needing the same overall info for each one probably. You will then start getting replies so keep everything together for each account so you can easily dig out the envelope or file with the papers for each company/item. Note the outside of the envelope or file with something like: company name, relevant account or reference no, date letter sent, date reply received, date next letter sent etc so you keep on top of it as you go and find have go ho into each file go find which one. Especially important if you had more ghan end item with a particular company.
With that amount of cards etc you are bound to have had it on at least one.
Please do set yourself the task of solidly doing it next week as if it is your job - no distractions till its done. :T:T
Fingers xd for you :money:

I'll start on Monday and carry on on Tuesday too if it takes that long. I'll go though the filing cabinets and the shredding piles and look for any statements, or letters with account numbers on etc and gather them together.
Then I'll look at the links on MSE and see exactly what I need to do to claim it.
I can do this! Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Tonight's bad news is that our oven has stopped working
. It won't switch on basically. DH needs to check the fuse in the plug. The element went once before so it could be that, but it hasn't happened at a great time for us as we can't afford to get it fixed at the moment. So our dinner was microwaved tonight . At least the hob is working and we have a microwave so all is not lost.
I've also had some upsetting news that I probably shouldn't talk about on here, but I think my stepdad may be romantically involved with another woman. It's six months tomorrow since my mum died. I didn't expect him to stay single for ever, but it seems a little soon as it hasn't even been six months and I think it started a couple of weeks ago. I know it's none of my business and he deserves some happiness, but I think if it had happened after a year I would feel less upset about it. I'm not going to say anything to him because it's not really my business. But he asked my sister if he could bring his new 'friend' to stay for a few days in March, and as my sister has one spare room with a double bed in it, she was a bit taken aback to say the least. His new 'friend' was on speakerphone too at the time which made it doubly awkward.
Just when I thought my life couldn't get any more weird.

Thank you both for your answers. I don't want to be mean to him. I just think I would feel more prepared for it after a year. My mum's death still feels like yesterday to me, so it shocked me for it to happen so quickly. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally
