  • I know I must do it. When is the deadline? I would hate to leave it too late :(. I'm going to make a firm commitment to myself to do it on Monday. I feel as though we may have had it for something, because I remember thinking at the time that I wondered if we were really eligible for it because of being self employed.

What if we don't have the paperwork though? I may have chucked it away in a decluttering frenzy :(.

We have had about seven credit cards between us in the past and our old mortgage was with the H@lifax, so it's possible that we may have paid PPI on our old mortgage.

How do I actually claim the PPI? Is there a standard letter that I can just send to all our old creditors?

In a rush now, sorry, and no time to check closing date. I think it's early Autumn. Will check on that and the other things you asked. Being self-employed might be the ideal reason why it was miss sold to you.

Don't worry about having the paperwork. I only had some for one of my 4 claims and then it was only a solitary monthly account statement.

Checking out and claiming PPI needs to be my next big priority I think.

I meant to do it straight after paying off our debts, but life got in the way and now over a year has gone by :(. I would hate to miss the deadline through procrastination as any money gained would make a huge difference to our lives.

So that is my biggest goal right now, claim PPI. By Monday I should have got over this horrible cold, so that will be the perfect time to look into it. I need to go throuhg all our filing cabinets and the shredding piles to find any old statements and account numbers that could be relevant.

Is there a standard letter on MSE that I can send to all of our old creditors and our old mortgage provider?

It's very straightforward - I've done it twice - full PPI on a loan some years ago done via the template letter, and a Plevin reclaim on an old CC last year which I did through the Resolver tool.

Ooops! EssexHebridean's post and mine crossed in cyberspace. Both links probably take you to the same place.

Thank you both for those links :). I don't know why but I feel a bit intimidated by the process, which is silly I know :o so I need to get over that and get on with claiming.

  • Honestly Hairy, do it. You’ve nothing to lose. I claimed on a credit card PPI and also mortgage protection PPI. Both were successful and a major factor in us getting debt free Xx
