  • Sorry, HH. didn't mean to ignore your question:o. I read it, then read a few later posts and forgot to go back to respond.

Yes, I paid it yesterday afternoon over the phone by debit card:j. I was surprised that I didn't feel as euphoric when the deed was done as I thought I would though. The best moment was when they actually agreed to the offer. Strangely the balance of that debt had changed to zero on my credit file within 48 hours of their acceptance even though I hadn't even paid them:eek:

I like the way you've got your potential Christmas spending organised:T. I'm sure your family will appreciate their gifts as although you won't be spending much they'll know they've been chosen with thought and care.

I bet you're the same as me in taking care of your books. When I donate books I've read, especially hardbacks, to a charity shop they still look almost new. I've often donated brand new items too, gifts that I didn't really want or need:o. I'm sure you'll find something really nice in charity shops as gifts for your family. Everybody wins that way:T.

I'm glad it's paid Carboot :T. You can feel a small sense of anti climax when the deed is done, but trust me you will also get sudden moments of joy when it hits you how much less you owe :j. Are you going to update your signature to show a new (smaller) debt total?

You're right that I do look after my books :).

  • Are you going to update your signature to show a new (smaller) debt total?

Thanks for reminding me:T. I forget to update my signature for weeks on end:o. I'll do it tomorrow, I'm off for a lukewarm shower and then bed. I've already put my hot water bottle in:j. OH still hasn't fixed the shower or got a plumber in and it's been like it for weeks:( yet he was doing all sorts of jobs at John's house earlier in the week. When I first started my DMP I was updating my signature after every payment, I was obsessed with seeing the balance going down even though it was a drop in the ocean.

    Night night x
  • I'll look forward to seeing your new signature Carboot :). Refuse to cook for OH until he fixes the shower  you don't want a lukewarm shower, especially in a cold house . At least I get to enjoy a hot shower :T.

  • I'm a big believer in getting your foot in the door of a company however menial the job. It's not so easy these days to get the post you really want straight away. With lots of recent graduates having to resort to working in McDonalds (not that I'm belittling McD's, it's just not the type of job they spent 3 years at Uni for:eek:) any job is better than nothing with all this Brexit uncertainty. I don't think people who need rather than want a job can afford to be too fussy.

As you say, doingitanyway, once employers see HH's qualities they are bound to be impressed and internal promotion is more than likely to follow:j. A good, hardworking and loyal employee that they already know (like HH is sure to be) is often preferable to taking a chance on someone unknown with umpteen qualities on paper.

You are so right, when I went for the interview for my first hospital cleaning job I wanted more hours than they offered me and I wanted to work on a ward not cleaning the corridors but I decided to take it anyway as once you get in somewhere internal opportunities come up all the time, then it's just a matter of making sure you are a model employee and getting noticed, I had zero qualifications to do the job I do now and not much experience but I got the job because the matrons on the ward had got to know me over a few years and could see I work hard and it paid off for me
    Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,894

I don't see myself as inspirational, I think a lot comes down to being in the right place at the right time and taking a chance,I remember thinking at the time that I would give the job a go and if I didn't like it I could just leave again,I hated it when I first went there but made myself give it a couple of months and although I threaten to leave all the time I'm still there 26 years later:rotfl:

Brilliant idea about the charity books too,I got a few hard backs from my local charity shops and they were in excellent condition, I paid £2 for mine so there are some real bargains to be had ,I also enjoy looking for them too

  • Have a good day. I was wondering if you were any good at making things to give Christmas presents instead of having to buy? x
    September 2017 Debt = £25330

    Starting afresh.

You can do anything if you put your mind to it. x
  • I'm not very good at making things unfortunately Nicnak, I seem to have missed out on the craft gene :(. So I think books are the way to go. My stepmum isn't a reader but likes cooking so I'm thinking a cookery book for her. Ditto for SIL :).
