  • Nor am I:o. I'm constantly looking out for the postman's van at the moment, I want responses to my other F&F offers to come. The offers were a bit cheeky so they'll probably be turned down anyway but I live in hope;)

I hope you'll hear some good news soon about your job applications:beer:. The worst part is that often employers don't even acknowledge applications, they get so many, and people have no way of knowing if someone else got the job and carry on waiting and hoping.

Good luck. You never know, they may just say yes! I couldn't wait so DH and I rang them afrer a week and said "Well, how about it?". Then most of them said yes over the phone.

It is annoying not to get replies :(.

  • I'm actually really cross and ashamed that DH and I have got into this situation of being so short of money, again :(.

We are two adults with no health issues that stop us from earning money. Our kids are grown up so we have no child care problems. Our mistake has been relying on a failing business for 100% of our income. Well I'm not doing that any more.

Like I said earlier I'm getting a job whatever it takes. I have been following a long term plan for the past few years. I've taken and passed my Functional Skills maths Level 2 a year ago, which is the equivalent of GCSE. Now I have nearly a year of volunteering under my belt.

So I've given myself what I lacked in the past to get a job. Now I need to get out there and find one. My plan for a few years has been to get a job, but being self employed for so long and being without a maths qualification was holding me back.

I think you can be allowed to be cross with yourself but don't be ashamed, there's no shame in trying to run a business to support your family at least you can say you gave it all you've got, your plan sounds great and I'm sure it will pay off in the long run

Before I got the job I have now I had been on benefits for two years due to the second breakup with my now ex partner, when we got back together I decided to try and go back to work and I got a housekeeping job at the hospital where I work now,I started off cleaning the corridors for 15 hours a week then got a part time job cleaning the ward where I am now,I had no maths qualification as I simply cannot deal with numbers, then the trust I work for introduced a course called return to work so I went on that,I basically taught you how to study in case you wanted to advance your skills,it also included a maths unit which I managed to pass much to my surprise

I was then offered a housekeeping supervisor role on a 6 month secondment so I did that for the 6 months and at the end they offered me the job permanently but I didn't like it so asked to go back to my old housekeeping job ,my manager took me for breakfast and spent nearly two hours trying to change my mind but I was adamant that I wanted to go back to my old job ,so back I went for about 3 months when the job of Health Care Assistant came up on my ward, I had split with my partner again by now and needed more money so I decided to go for it and got the job and I'm still there,I have done my level 3 NVQ in Health Care and now have that qualification plus two others that are equivalent to two A levels, I'm trained in phlebotomy and to carry out ECGs, so what I'm trying say is some plans start off small but can lead to all sorts of places

I really hope something turns up for you soon xx

  • Thanks OBL that's really interesting to hear your story and it is inspiring. You've done so well :).

I'm meeting stepdad for coffee and may just come home after that as I can't afford to buy anything. The weather looks a bit grim  but hopefully it will improve.

    Have a good Saturday everyone.

I'm a big believer in getting your foot in the door of a company however menial the job. It's not so easy these days to get the post you really want straight away. With lots of recent graduates having to resort to working in McDonalds (not that I'm belittling McD's, it's just not the type of job they spent 3 years at Uni for:eek:) any job is better than nothing with all this Brexit uncertainty. I don't think people who need rather than want a job can afford to be too fussy.

As you say, doingitanyway, once employers see HH's qualities they are bound to be impressed and internal promotion is more than likely to follow:j. A good, hardworking and loyal employee that they already know (like HH is sure to be) is often preferable to taking a chance on someone unknown with umpteen qualities on paper.
  • Enjoy your coffee.

I agree with Carboot above. Someone will meet you and realise you are perfect for the company x
