I'm not keen on American stuff either, like spending a fortune on proms
What's wrong with a cheapo leavers disco like I had, where everyone wore white stilletos with a mini skirt :rotfl:Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Thankfully the proms thing started after my two left school, it must cost a fortune.
When I was at primary school the teacher told us if we looked out of the window at midnight on Halloween we would turn to dust. I was terrified for years! Imagine teachers being allowed to say that nowadays.
Now the kids are grown up we don't do anything for bonfire night but we live across the road from a park where they have a huge firework display, so we get to see some fab fireworks from the comfort of our sofa.
I do think it's nice to celebrate such events though, especially if you have children.
I remember the school leavers disco, spent hours getting ready - happy daysI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -

Yes proms are really expensive. Some girls get their hair and make up done and want to arrive in a limo, can you imagine the cost  Luckily two of mine disn't want to go to their proms

Thank you juliejim, welcome to my diary
Today should should be a NSD as we are not leaving the house.
I've already put a wash on, emptied all the bins and sorted out some more books for the charity shop. I should vacuum but I'm not sure I can face it
After this I need to do more washing, tidy my bedroom and persuade DS1 to finish unpacking and strip his bed.
DH is going to glue a rim around DS1's shelf so all his stuff doesn't slide off it, it hangs from his study bunk and doesn't hang straight  He needs to cut some dowelling to size and then wants to varnish it to match the shelf
Plus we have sticky sellotape gunk (from hanging decorations) around our kitchen door frame, which he is going to get off with some special solution he has
That should keep us busy enough not to spend money. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Next week I want to have as many NSDs as possible, focus on getting work done, and four of us have flu jabs scheduled.
Plus I'm trying not to get excited about which day the letters from the creditors might arrive, but I can't help it :j I'm going to be on tender hooks until they arrive
Once the two final debts are paid I want to find out how much state pension DH and I will be entitled to when we retire at 67. That is 12 years away for DH and 14 years away for me. I don't feel thst old
I can't see us being able to retire before then

Many primaries have started having a leaver's prom!!!!
It bothers me that these milestones are coming earlier and earlier in a child's life. I suppose it is me being a miserable old ******** but I feel sad that youngsters today experience these big events so early, almost certainly too early.
Anyway enough of my grumpiness.
There have been a few really wonderful sunsets this week. I certainly noticed the cooler air today. We enjoyed a roast meal today after watching motorbike racing - perfect Sunday.
Have a good week HHD

My little one hates halloween after next door jumped out in the scariest mask you have ever seen. Scared the hell out of me, never mind a three year old as she was at the time. She spent the night petrified and crying, and has since asked not to go out on halloween.
I wouldn't mind that happening, but she gets loads of Haribos, doesn't like them, and I recycle them into the box that I hand out when other people come to my door. I save them up from when she gets them for birthdays in her class. How much of a meany am I?
I hate prom too. It puts unnecessary pressure on parents, and costs the most ridiculous amount in spray tans, nails, hair, dresses, cars.
Can't wait to see when your letter comes through, I'm guessing Wednesday!September 2017 Debt = £25330
Starting afresh.
You can do anything if you put your mind to it. x0
