It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

When I was at the shops earlier and saw all the halloween stuff it reminded me of how I used to struggle to afford to give the kids a good halloween
We used to buy a pumpkin and DH would carve it, we'd put a tealight in it and pop it on the doorstep to attract trick or treaters. The kids used to love answering the door in costume and dishing out sweets to the 'monsters' on the doorstep
We only used to buy the pumpkin, sweets to dish out, some cheapo green and orange cupcakes, and let them buy a cheap scary mask each. But any extra expense used to hurt us when we had such enormous debt repayments
It was fun at the time, but now I'm glad I don't need to buy halloween stuff and keep jumping up to answer the doorFinally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I don't answer it now, although to be fair local kids don't usually ring unless you put a pumpkin out
I only did it to please my kids who loved it. The things we do for our kids, rolls eyes. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I hate halloween. We spend the rest of the year teaching the smalls about stranger danger etc then we allow them to knock on strangers doors and ask for sweets or similar. Not for me at all
I will make halloween 'party' food for dinner and will do something halloween like for their breakfast. This year they are going to the halloween disco at school too.
Now bonfire nightI love! I don't really like fireworks but we do have a fire and good food :rotfl:

My kids were always keener on halloween than bonfire night, for some reason :undecided.
That's another thing we used to spent £20 a year on  a small box of fireworks and some sparklers, which we used to let off in my parents' garden whilst drinking soup out of mugsThe bonfire never used to light because it always rained the night before :rotfl:

I don't celebrate Halloween either. It's an American tradition. I'm not an American. We make a big fuss of Bonfire Night instead :dance:SPC7 ~ Member#390 ~ £432.45 declared :j
