redofromstart wrote: »HHoD is it limited company or self employed? Does it use your surname so its obvious? References aren't worth the paper they are written on frankly, we don't expect more than a confirmation of name and date of employment out of a company reference, and character references can be provided by just about anybody.
Its always easier to write a CV for someone else. I bet we could come up with some great words for you, or feel free to PM me when you are ready and I will help. I'm better at technical/professional/office/manager ones than anything child related though.
Hope this helps!
Thank you Redo. It's a Partnership and doesn't have our surname in the name of the company. You mean our business could give me a reference? I didn't really tbink of that :rotfl:.
I could find people to give me a character reference I'm sure. You're right that I need to make it clear that I genuinely want to work and it's not just to get us through a bad patch. Our bad patch has been going on for about ten years .
I actually do want a job for financial stability, to boost my confidence, so I can meet more people, and because if DH was ever too ill to work we would be screwed. I couldn't and wouldn't want to run the business on my own.
I've always told DH that if he got run over by a bus I would immediately close the business down and get a job. He would like me to love the business as much as he does, but I really have been doing it for him all these years.
I really appreciate your kind offer Redo, thank you. If I need to take you up on it I'll ask.

Im not surprised you feel down, I would be the same. Just thinking if you do do a bit of voluntary you could ask them for a reference if you should start applying for jobs? xxYou would be a fab CAB volunteer~~& a great way to get a reference
Thank you all. I have been volunteering in a school one morning a week for the past four weeks to gain some experience and have really enjoyed it. I've also emailed another school to see if they want me another morning to get more experience.
I want to find out if I really enjoy it, get some skills and experience and maybe a future reference. So far I've really enjoyed it and the time flies when I'm there. The staff are lovely and the children are hilarious.

I was going to suggest contacting your local schools. My smalls school is an academy and all their paid teaching assistants started off as volunteers for 12 months and at the end of the 12 months they are offered a paid position. None of them have been to 'train' in teaching etc but are happy staying at the level of a teaching assistant.
I hope you feel happier soon. Sometimes I think it takes a while for everything to 'catch up' with us and you've had quite a few big things happen over the last couple of months x“Once you hit rock bottom, that's where you perfectly stand; That's your chance of restarting, but restarting the way.”0 -
