Thanks lucky I'm sure he will enjoy his birthday. He has chocolate, beer, birthday cake, new jeans, books, plus the new phone we clubbed together with my parents to buy. He's also going to decide whether he wants a takeaway tonight for his dinnerFinally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I remember when my DS was at college the bus fares were shocking & the bus did not turn up half the time

Thanks Beanie. Yes the fares are shocking, particularly as we can't claim any benefits for him due to his age . Still we want him to go to college for his own good.
Today I did about three surveys for PA and my total is now £2.25 plus £4 pending
Tonight we're having a takeaway for DS3's birthday treat. DS2 didn't want one as he's on a healthy eating kick, so it will come to £25 for four of us. Cheaper than going out anyway plus I don't have to cook.
The mortgage payment went out today which is our single biggest payment and I transferred £100 into our emergency fund.
I'm feeling quite tired so I'm glad it's Friday and I don't have to set the alarm. I'll probably wake up around 7.30 anyway but it's a bit of a lie in.
Have a relaxing evening everyone.

I'm back from the shops and almost stuck to my budget.
My general spends today were as follows:
£2.10 bus fare
£3 on books
£2.65 on coffee
Total general spends = £7.75 (so within my £8 budget ☺)
Food spends:
£1.38 bananas
£1.00 satsumas
£0.50 80 value teabags
£1.50 80 decaff teabags
£1.00 kitchen towel
£1.00 Ripple 4 pack (treat for DH & DS1)
£2.50 fruit pot (keeps me off the booze on a Sunday night)
£1.25 3 mini fruit packs (treat for DH & DS1)
Total food spend = £10.13 (£2.13 over my £8 budget)
Total overall spends = £17.13
So the spending could be a lot worse. They still had sales on in lots of shops, but I just told myself that I don't need anything and sailed past ☺Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

I haven't found my really old money saving ideas list, but I can remember some of the things that were on it. For example:
Stop buying Radio Times
Cancel milkman (buy milk in Tesco instead)
Stop buying daily choc in corner shop (bulk buy in Tesco instead)
Cancel Stagecoach for 3 kids ( saved us a fortune!)
Stop buying milkshakes (buy Nesquik instead)
Cancel premium current account (change to free one)
Hold kids birthday parties at home instead of expensive play barns
Cancel washing machine insurance
Only eat out on birthdays or our wedding anniversary
Downgrade baked beans, teabags, tinned tomatoes & margarine to value brands
I'm sure there was a lot more on the list but that's all that comes to mind now. I can see how we got into debt though :eek:Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

DH is sanding the front door at the moment ready for a new coat of paint
Once I tear myself away from here I will do the following:
1 Clean out the bunny (or the furry moron as we call him)
2 Vacuum the lounge
3 Empty all the bins in the house and sort them into recycling, general rubbish, etc
4 Do yet more laundry
5 Sit down with a cuppa
Have a lovely Saturday everyoneFinally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally
