  • Some great advice there Hairy. I wouldn’t worry too much about that one off test. Interesting about the hidden sugars. I will be reading labels to check if contents have more than 15g/100g sugar in now. As for jars of sauces I avoid them after watcing Eat Well for Less once and they were trying different tomato pasta sauces. The leading brand Dolm!o had 14 spoons of sugar in , whereas the basic brand had only one spoon in. I personally cook from scratch now after watching that.

Am I right in thinking the hba blood test is more accurate at looking at the average blood sugar over a period of time?

Thanks Arsenal :). I love watching Eat Well For Less too as it's always entertaining and can be informative. We always buy the Mr T cooking sauces so I'll check how much sugar they have per 100g. We never buy D0lm!0 or equivalent brands as they are so expensive.

I don't know exactly what they tested for. The plebotomist took two vials of blood but I don't know what tests the doctor asked for. When I see the doctor he'll probably suggest further blood sugar tests.

I slept quite well last night but I feel like I'm coming down with a cold this morning :(. So despite beautiful sunshine we've decided to stay in today rather than go for a walk. It seems a waste of a lovely day but I do feel a bit rough at the moment and I'll have a long and tiring day tomorrow.

DH tested my blood sugar again this morning before I had breakfast and it was 5.4 the same as yesterday which is in the normal range. So hopefully that's a good sign. I may try and see the doctor before Thursday so I don't feel anxious about my health :o.

This morning I've emptied the bins, cleaned the sink in the bathroom and put a wash on. I've asked DH if he will iron my work trousers and he said yes :). So I'm going to try and rest now for the rest of the day so that I can cope with tomorrow.

DH has nipped out to Mr M to buy milk, frozen berries, cooks matches and multivitamins for me. I haven't had a multivitamin for a few days as I've run out so that may not be helping my tiredness levels.

I've started reading a book 'Dead Cold' by Louise Penny and I'm enjoying that so I'll read more of that today and DH has some more rom coms lined up. The rom com watching is meant to make us feel cheerful and dispel tension and I think it is working to some extent.

I've worked out that DS3's term ends on 13th December so it's just over a month before he comes home :D. However DS2 wants to go to Turkey soon so that will raise my anxiety levels. I want him to do what makes him happy but I always worry when he's travelling alone :(.

DH and I were talking about marketing this morning to try and drum up some more business for him and he has some ideas so hopefully they will bring in some work before Christmas.

I hope everyone is having a good Sunday :).

  • Fingers crossed for the ideas. I hope the doctor can see you before Thursday. The stress of it must be really frustrating for you. x

  • Definitely try not to worry about the blood test result, HH. If your reading is normal when first getting up in the morning (basically a fasting result) it seems there's little cause for concern. I still don't understand how it all works though as if the reading is of concern to the nurse/doc after you've had food it might signify something minor might be wrong. We all need to eat several times a day and how the body metabolises (if I'm using the right term for what goes on) what we consume might have a bearing on the blood sugar levels. I'm no expert though but I imagine everyone's blood sugar reading spikes several times a day.

What does concern me though is why you seem to be so tired a lot of the time and have so many colds. Maybe the two are related and if the medics can throw some light on that I'm sure you'll be able to get it sorted and feel so much better. Did the blood tests show any sign of anaemia or B12 deficiency? Both fairly common among ladies of a certain age;).

I hope you manage to sleep well tonight and feel more energised to do your job(s) tomorrow:). What a kind DH to do your ironing:j

Your blood sugar sounds fine, I think as someone else said it's the latest fad with GPs. I believe 5 is the perfect score so you're barely over. I had a well woman check recently and I'm sure they were desperate to find something wrong but all the tests came back as perfect which seemed to throw them out.

It's sounds to me like you have a reasonably healthy lifestyle, you're mindful of your steps etc and although you enjoy a Diet Coke I'm sure you're not drinking gallons of it.

Hope you feel better soon and get some answers from your GP that will set your mind at rest.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Hi HHOD

Just been reading back a few pages. It's great you have a job at the school (yes, it's been that long).

I have now got used just to drinking fizzy water rather than gallons of low cal pop. For a treat, I occasionally jazz it up with a tiny bit of orange juice. You can tell I am living the high life still.

Since making a conscious effort to avoid artificial sweeteners, colourings and flavourings, I have felt much less tired. I do think that some people just aren't designed with bodies that can deal with them. I am using more herbs and spices.

So sending love from a very windy Spain
