Try not to worry about the pre diabetes reading- it might be worth telling the gp how the readings are different after fasting. Listen to your GP and take his/her advice.
I’m pleased you looked after yourself on your Mums birthday, I know how these anniversaries can affect us - and I’m many years along the line than you are.
Hope you’ve not got too wet today it’s horrendous here - really heavy showers - some of them hailstones

  • Hi Hairy,

I can understand your worry regarding the test and definitely go to see the doctor even if it is just to settle your mind.

First anniversaries are the hardest, so well done for looking after yourself there.

I hope you had a great day at work today xx

Hi HHD :) Hope you're feeling a bit better today and work has gone well. I have 6 monthly blood checks and have lost count of the times I'm pre-diabetic, only to have another blood test and everything be fine. :o

I need to check with DD when her term finishes but I suspect she'll stay in the house with her working so I'm not expecting her home until Christmas Eve.

Hope the marketing goes well and DH gets some business in. xx
  • Sorry your feeling rough Hairy,I hope it goes away soon,Its lovely here today as well so I've been out in the garden for a bit, it's so nice to get some fresh air

    Thanks OBL :).

Definitely try not to worry about the blood test result, HH. If your reading is normal when first getting up in the morning (basically a fasting result) it seems there's little cause for concern. I still don't understand how it all works though as if the reading is of concern to the nurse/doc after you've had food it might signify something minor might be wrong. We all need to eat several times a day and how the body metabolises (if I'm using the right term for what goes on) what we consume might have a bearing on the blood sugar levels. I'm no expert though but I imagine everyone's blood sugar reading spikes several times a day.

What does concern me though is why you seem to be so tired a lot of the time and have so many colds. Maybe the two are related and if the medics can throw some light on that I'm sure you'll be able to get it sorted and feel so much better. Did the blood tests show any sign of anaemia or B12 deficiency? Both fairly common among ladies of a certain age;).

I hope you manage to sleep well tonight and feel more energised to do your job(s) tomorrow:). What a kind DH to do your ironing:j

    Thanks FS :).

Your blood sugar sounds fine, I think as someone else said it's the latest fad with GPs. I believe 5 is the perfect score so you're barely over. I had a well woman check recently and I'm sure they were desperate to find something wrong but all the tests came back as perfect which seemed to throw them out.

It's sounds to me like you have a reasonably healthy lifestyle, you're mindful of your steps etc and although you enjoy a Diet Coke I'm sure you're not drinking gallons of it.

Hope you feel better soon and get some answers from your GP that will set your mind at rest.

    Thanks SA :).

    Hi HHOD

Just been reading back a few pages. It's great you have a job at the school (yes, it's been that long).

I have now got used just to drinking fizzy water rather than gallons of low cal pop. For a treat, I occasionally jazz it up with a tiny bit of orange juice. You can tell I am living the high life still.

Since making a conscious effort to avoid artificial sweeteners, colourings and flavourings, I have felt much less tired. I do think that some people just aren't designed with bodies that can deal with them. I am using more herbs and spices.

So sending love from a very windy Spain
    Pauline

It's lovely to hear from you Pauline :). I've missed your posts. It sounds like you're still enjoying living in Spain :).

DH took my blood sugar before breakfast this morning and it was 6.4 which is a bit high for a fasting blood test :(.

I felt better after a night's sleep although I still felt like I had a cold coming on. School was fine and it was dry :) although I did feel tired in the afternoon.

I asked DH to make a doctor's appointment for me after school and he did. The doctor said they had done a blood test which measured my blood sugar over three months and I am definitely prediabetic. The doctor was as puzzled as I am as I'm slim, hardly ever eat sugar and get plenty of exercise. So they want to test if I have visceral fat around my organs which could be causing it. I do still feel a bit anxious. I can cope with the possibity of diabetes, as long as it's not something more serious.

I asked DH if he would cook tonight as my cold is progressing :(. Luckily I don't have to be in until lunchtime tomorrow so I can have a lie in until 8am. I feel as though I could do with one!

I hope everyone has had a good Monday :).

I'm so glad that you managed to get such a speedy Doc's appointment:T. A couple of things strike me though.

As there is a considerable discrepancy in the fasting blood results you do at home, are these home testing kits 100% reliable?

The Doc said your surgery test measured your blood pressure over 3 months but I'm totally confused by this:o. It's pretty easy to confuse me:rotfl:. You only had the one test didn't you, and I can't see how that can be anything but a snapshot of the situation at the time it was taken. How do they know what was happening 3 months ago? Seems weird to me.

I'm assuming the consultation was mainly focussed on the blood sugar/pre-diabetes situation and that you didn't get any further enlightenment on why you seem so tired a lot of the time and have such frequent colds. I know it's common to catch all sorts when working with young children, especially in the first few terms, but you've been doing it for a good while now and I recall you had lots of colds before you started volunteering.

Well done to your lovely DH for sorting out your appointment and for cooking your meal last night:T:beer:. I hope you slept well last night and feel more ready to face whatever the day throws at you today. Take care of yourself xxx
  • Your GP can see you quickly what service! That is the blood test I mentioned. I think it is used as it’s a good indicator of blood sugar levels over a period of time rather than just a snapshot. Hope you don’t have to wait too long for the other test. At least you’re in the loop now. For your colds have you tried echinacea? Stress can affect your immunity and insulin levels. You have had a tough time and you say yourself you are a worrier. Have you thought about listening to a relaxation app? There must be some free ones. When I was going through my cancer scare and op this year I was in a right state. I found a hypnosis app with lots of free ones to listen to, it really helped calm me down. They aren’t everyone’s cup of tea though and take a bit of practice.
Total weight lost 6.5/73lbs starting yet again. Afds August 10/15. /8 Sept.

Thanks Arsenal :). My surgery have a system where you can ring at 8am or 2pm and get a same day appointment but only if you say it's urgent. But my surgery told me to ring up for one of those appointments this week. Yes I am at least in the loop now.

I do take eccinacea for my colds and I think it does help sometimes.

I am a worrier and I have been through a tough time as you say. I've been reading up about blood sugar and stress can raise it I think. Also I was reading that about 20% of prediabetics/diabetics are slim and active. So it could just be that my body reacts in an extreme way to the small amount of sugar that I do have.

A relaxation app is a good idea, maybe I should try that. I'm not sure I could empty my mind, but I do need to learn to relax more.
