  • I didn't sleep very well last night because I was feeling mortifiied about the complaint and thinking about keeping my class quiet all night :o.

Anyway hopefully today will take my mind off it. I'm going to Mum and stepdad's house to meet my niece and stepdad and fiance and then we're going out for coffee. It will be nice seeing my niece but I find it upsetting going to the house and seeing it gradually dismantled. At least I'll be able to ask for a couple more momentos of Mum.

But after that I want to get some things done at home, like sorting out my winter clothes, packing away my summer clothes and hanging up some paintings that used to belong to my Mum.

I hope everyone has a good Saturday :).

Thank you INOD :). Yes I did think it was nice of her to tip me off. I do get on well with her ( but then I thought I got on with everybody).

  • Getting an Infant School class of 30 individuals to stay quiet ,in a line and controlled after a boisterous lunchtime is almost impossible. All you need is one child with a cut knee crying, the class clown playing up at the back and that's it.

When I taught infants, we decided that lining up quietly was never going to be 100% so as a school, decided on a different strategy.

When the whistle blew the children had to stop what they were doing. They were then called in class by class. They had to go in quietly, no running, pushing etc. but no lining up,and the class teacher had to be in the class to receive them.If I remember correctly, Reception children went in 5 minutes earlier to stagger it a bit.
Overall this worked much better and the behaviour improved. Also the miscreants were easily identifiable and could be dealt with on an individual basis, without the audience they craved.
Senior school pupils should be able to line up reasonably quietly, but it is a big ask for Infants.

I can understand the comment preying on your mind, most of us take things like this to heart, I know I have in the past. A few days down the line it won't bother you so much. I think I'd be tempted to speak to the teacher concerned and make her realise it upset you that she commented behind your back. Easier said than done though.

Good idea to see the doctor just to rule out deficiencies etc.

  • What a shame that a single comment has dented your confidence. You can tell from all the responses here that we assess your suitability and attitude as spot on. Difficult when you maybe don't feel you have the professional standing that a teacher has, but I doubt there is any long-term significance to the remark.

We eat quite a lot of home-grown perpetual spinach, which seems to grow with very little attention a large part of the year, and I keep several packs of it in the freezer for such as bolognaise sauces. Spinach has lots of potassium (more than bananas), magnesium and iron, and a good variety of other vitamins and minerals. Unless you have certain kidney problems, it is a very healthy dietary component. The young leaves are very mild in salad.
However, if you are eating eggs regularly you are getting a wonderful variety of essential nutrients.

I thought perhaps you'd had your iron levels checked before, or maybe I mis-remember? Perhaps it's a good thing to have checked occasionally anyway.

We had DGS overnight recently, and he enjoyed himself so much he wanted to stay longer. Sometimes I think other people's children, even as close as grandchildren, need to come with a set of instructions ! Anyway we kept him busy and well fed, and he spent a happy hour going on the bus to have his hair cut, finding that the children's barber doesn't come in till later in the day, informing other customers of this interesting fact and then back on the bus. We had to get back for the boiler service which was a lovely entertainment !!!

    Children are funny:
I gave him a bath and washed his hair using the shower which DD2 has been unable to use because of his complaints but he obligingly tipped his head back for me which he refuses to do at home!
Then he announced he didn't want the macaroni cheese I was making, but I simply said that's what there was and when it came he scoffed it without a murmur !

Thank you Hillwalker you've made me feel a lot better about the whole thing :). The strategy at your school sounds a lot more sensible.

Thank you SA :). It has dented my confidence a bit because I never get much feedback, so if you hear something negative then you're bound to take it to heart, but I am trying not to dwell on it.

Thank you Elizabeth :). It has given my confidence a knock because I rarely get feedback, although I did get some good feedback from the teacher I work with at the end of the summer term and the deputy head told a teacher recently that I was a quick learner. This is the first negative feedback (that I'm aware of anyway) and it has upset me a lot. But I'll try to learn from it rather than dwell on it.

I haven't been to the doctor for over a year and then it was to ask for counselling (which I never got). I don't think I've had my bloods or anything else checked for years.

Children are funny aren't they :rotfl:. They do sometimes to play up with their parents and be little angels with other people :rotfl:. But your grandchildren clearly have a lovely relationship with you.
