  • There's no getting round the anniversary sense of loss - somehow it has to be borne. Eventually, it gets a little easier , but to be honest, aren't our loved ones worth sad remembrance on our part ? I'd be proud to think I'd made that much difference to people's lives.

Thank you all of you :). The anniversary stirred up lots of emotions that I've been repressing so that I can cope with life. But I think I'm starting to come out of the other side now.

I went out for my Saturday saunter yesterday. I dropped some stuff at the charity shop, paid a cheque in, returned a couple of clothing items and got £22 back, and bought a voucher to post in a birthday card for SIL.

Then I succumbed to the D3benh@ms sale and bought a Japer Conran mug tree :o. I've had my eye on it for ages because it matches our kitchen roll holder but I was waiting for it to be reduced. It does look lovely in the kitchen but it was a want not a need. Then when I got home I ordered five books from eb@y and one from Am@zon :o. They were from a series that I love and that I'm collecting in hardback.

I think it must be the anniversary making me do some emotional spending. I feel guilty but not enough to cancel the purchases :o. But I must stop spending on non essentials now.

Anyway today we're not going out and I'm keeping away from online shops :o. DH and I have been doing gardening all morning in the hot sun. We've pruned our gigantic overgrown hedge to within an inch of it's life. We're hoping that our new back gate will be fitted soon so at least our builder will be able to do it without being attacked by foliage now. We're also preparing for cutting the entire hedge down so that a fence can be built along the top of our wall, although our builder is busy so I'm not sure when he'll have time for that :(.

It's a shame because having made the decision I'm really keen to get it done now. I have this vision of how our garden could look, but I need the hedge to go and the fences to be installed first. When I was up our step ladder in the garden I noticed that our neighbours have a dear little rabbit running around their garden :).

Anyway we've finished hedge cutting for today and we'll bag up another day because we're hot and tired. We'll need to load up the car and take it to the tip, but we haven't finished taming the hedge yet. I'm going to take it a bit easy this afternoon now.

I hope everyone is having a good Sunday :).

Just a thought re buying presents for the children at school- check it’s ok with the school first. My last school didn’t allow it and this school has just stopped it - safeguarding gone mad - apparently could be taken as grooming..... I can see that buying an individual present for 1 child could look suspect but an end of term gift for everyone???? We buy a joint staff team book or pencil for all our kiddywinks. At my last place the head made a lovely student feel like a criminal  one time it was the norm at Christmas, ,Easter and end of term. The world has gone mad:mad:

Your flooring is sounding very nice.

I wouldn’t feel too guilty about you bargain- sometimes it just has to be.
    January spends - £587.58
  • Thank you Milann :). Good point re presents for the children, I'll check just in case, but I think it's okay because my colleague said she got her class a little something each. But things change all the time so it could all be different by Christmas!

I am very pleased with the toilet and breakfast room floors :T but I'm keen for them to come back and do the kitchen floor now as we have a stack of laminate planks under the kitchen table and a pile of skirting boards on the living room floor .
