Well that's not a proper tip is it. I tip if I receive good service, I wouldn't be tipping when I made the order.

    I agree

I don't honestly believe anyone will tip a delivery driver if they pay by card upfront.

When I pay by card I'll give the driver a couple of quid if he arrives quickly, I wouldn't give him anything before he arrived.

    .........

Also OP, how do they keep tips unless you are telling them that you got a tip, just pocket it and say nothing.

In post 19, the OP clarifies she was issued with CHIP & PIN reader, so customers paid on delivery, hence the tipping & being kept by the restaurant.

EDIT< Sorry LeeUK, I can see you spotted that in your later reply.

  • Even with a card machine at the door, surely not every customer paid by card and there must have been the odd cash paying customer who tipped. It's the cash paying ones who are more likely to tip anyway. If an order came to £19 and the customer handed you a twenty note, most would just say keep the change. Obviously not all, some would stand waiting for their 10p change etc. These were the customers you didn't hurry back to when they next ordered.

Apart from his pocket I see no good reason why the owner should have any cut of the delivery charge.

They don't around here-£1-50 per delivery. On a Friday/Saturday night you can do well on that. But I wouldn't starting and stopping my car.

And they don't carry card machines which should improve the chance of a tip.

Same round here. Every takeaway gives the delivery charge to the driver.

But it's the pits, a lot of single deliveries going out at a time hence why I stopped doing them.
