Did anyone check if they had put any oil in the gearbox?I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

When you say "30 days return" are you talking about a manufacturers or dealership guarantee that allows you to return get a full refund and walk away within 30 days?
I wonder if there is confusion going on in the thread about a legal right to reject any new car within 30 days...(something that I am unaware of) and your dealership saying you have 30 days if not satisfied.
Has the law been changed recently to allow this on any new car? because the law as I remember it was based on case law and there was no stipulated time for rejection, although it had to be done promptly, there was a case of a guy who bought a luxury brand and he was succesful rejecting after quite a long time, but as i understood it, for most cases to be succesful it would have to be rejected -only for very good reason- within a week or so.
But anyway.....
I would be on the phone to your dealers manager and ask why if you bring it down today cannot the service manager take it out for a drive with you....
If it is a no quibble guaranteed money back if not satisfied within 30days..... then why not take them up on their offer?0 -

also do I have the right to reject do to unrealistic economy claims?
......
and that was using start/stop and not being aggressive.
It isn't about being aggressive, it is about how you do things like approach traffic lights, junctions, roundabouts. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Regarding the economy, on the 4 brand new cars I've owned it took some 000s of miles for the engine to loosen up to get close to the manufacturers MPG figures. On the current one it also felt very sluggish acceleration wise for about 5K miles.
For the gearbox issue, have you Googled it to see if other owners have the same problem. My other half bought a new manual BMW 4 years ago and had real problems putting it into reverse. I also had problems, but a Google search showed this was a very common problem. She never tested reverse during the test drive but, I'm not sure it would have ever occurred to me to do so.0 -
been back to the dealer,
went on test drive with tech, he said he couldn't find a fault. though did say it was notchy. I said my missus cant drive it. I said is it worth checking the gearbox oil level, he said no and something about not removing the fill plug. so they adjusted the cables and sent me on my way. gearbox still notchy. economy still appalling. phoned SEAT Friday !!!!ed. SEAT put me through to main dealer. explained to sales manager I hated the car sales manager said not sure what he could suggest. he said wait until its done some 1K's. he said you can never achieve the quoted figures, I said well on our mk2 Toledo TDI ive bettered them on some drives, and that's an engine using 90's tech.
I think this is a false advertising issue as much as anything. apparently the EU is going to be using a more realistic test this September. too late for people like me who wernt told that the car manufactures are fiddling the test using small petrol engines that on a very light load can ace the test.
its like they want me to go away and put up with it.0 -

Why did you get drunk before ringing the garage? You're hardly going to get the best service that way.
Also, your old 90s tech Seat will likely have been sold using figures from an older standard emissions test. The newer European standard test is a comparison only - you will almost certainly never achieve the quoted figures. This fact has been done to death on many, many forums, TV programmes, articles, etc.0 -
So why are we still using them?
Just because a group of probably pro “EU car makers” politicians decide to come up with a test to make there cars look good?
If the mpg figures don’t match you can bet the CO2 doesn’t either.
No I wasn’t !!!!ed as in drunk, rather as in annoyed.0 -

Because they are used for comparative purposes, so the performance of one car can be evaluated consistently against another, under lab conditions.
There are plenty of real world test results to review published by websites, magazines, hobby owners etc to give you an idea of what you will actually achieve.0
