do i have the right to reject?
I have bought and collected a brand new car on September 2nd. shortly after that I discovered the gearbox is very stiff and occasionally I have to force it into gear. I emailed the dealer who said I could bring it in for them to look at. unfortunately they are 60 miles away, so I took it to another dealer of the same make nearer to me and they sent out a young tech who looking at the dealer mostly services Citroen's. anyway he said it was maybe stiff due to being new.
so after this I monitored things and it doesn't seem to be improving. I even visited a friend who has bought his at the same time and had the same sort of car 3 years earlier. he checked mine and said it is stiffer than both of his cars.
ive gone back to the dealer who has now advised me they cant look at it until the 6th Oct. this takes me over the 30 days return.
could this be a way of avoiding me rejecting the car? as the car is doing my head in.
ive also noticed a section of door panel about 2-3 inches long hasn't been coated with seem sealer where it returns onto the inside door panel metal. this seems poor quality.

Provided you have informed them of the fault, the 30 days clock stops. Not sure about taking to another dealer (unless you did that with permission of the first dealer) they might get a bit snooty.0

If I understand you correctly, you paid good money for a brand new car.
Then got some grease monkey from a non-franchised dealer to take a look at it due to a stiff gear change. He said it'll get smother with use.
Now almost 3 weeks later, you want to reject the car as the dealership you bought it from who cannot look at your car for 2 weeks?
Why on earth not? Did you speak to the sales person you originally paid your hard earned cash to when you travelled the 60 miles once more to explain the issue (so the car must now have at least 180 miles on the clock, 240 by the time you get back to the dealership)
Why did you even leave the dealership having returned there with a faulty car. You should have left it with them and demanded a courtesy car if the brand new one you paid good money for could not have the fault investigated that day.
Book an appointment to see the general manager tomorrow.
And if that is not possible when you ask, tell them you will be booking an appointment with your local rag that day to tell them the full story of how you have been treated by this franchised dealership.
Do you have any contact details for the manufacturer's own customers service department - a quick call to them should see a rocket put up the rear end of the dealership involved.
(Don't mention the grease monkey you first went to)
Sounds like the gearshift linkage simply needs adjusting (hopefully) - something that should certainly have been picked up at PDI if not in the original factory.0 -

ok i did inform the dealer i bought the car from as soon as i noticed the problem, via email.
i took it to the nearest franchised dealer which was not the original dealership but still the same brand. when i got there it became apparent that although they sell and service this brand there main business seems to be citreon. not greasmonkey.
it might well be a linkage issue.
im just not happy with grearshift, engine economy, engine power when in low gears, and when cold light acceleration seems to yeild small missfires. and to top it off the un sealed seem looks like it might have the beginings of rust.
when i compare the car to my old car its like theyve made it to last about 3 years not 20.0 -
Have you brought all of the above to the attention of the dealer?0

most of it.
the missfires are something new which im waiting for another cold morning to test. before i start pointing fingers.0 -
also do I have the right to reject do to unrealistic economy claims?
extra urban its supposed to do 70.6mpg urban 51.4mpg average 61.4mpg.
well yesterday I started driving like I would my old mk1 Leon TDI, which would do 43mpg urban. and I'm getting 32mpg!!!
and that was using start/stop and not being aggressive.0 -

could the baulky gearbox cause this?0

Is this one of the Seats you were trying to flog everyone on behalf of the garage?
I'd have thought they owed you a favour, the amount of advertising you did for them on MSE.0
