^^ There is nothing to repair, it's just some dodgy software - we will help you sort it ..
Try post #16 and let us know
Yes - I'll definitely do that, AndyPix. I have to go out soon but will come back later and do it. Then I'll post again. I'm not taking all this good help forgranted - I really do appreciate it.

Thanks AndyPix. I struggled to find the correct place on my tablet - I'm posting here from my laptop. On my laptop I logged into Chrome and I think I found the correct place, following your Post 16.
This came up "This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your bookmarks, history and saved passwords will not be cleared."
I clicked on it. Because (I believe) my Chrome is synched should that be enough to 'sort' the issue on my tablet. I apologise for my lack of knowledge.
If I need to do the same on my tablet - I am sorry I could not find the link there following chrome:settings/resetProfileSettings. Is there something else I should be doing there to reset profile settings.
Thank you for your help and your patience, AndyPix. I'll start browsing as normal in Chrome on my tablet and hope the unwanted window does not come back - but please be kind enough if you think I should do anything else, thanks.

Probably not dodgy software just reset the homepage to the dodgy URL or the search page to that URL
Log out of any browsers and clear all the data from the apps menu.
Even go as far as trying to uninstall the browser. If possible.
Install a different browser and see if that stops the problem. Daughter had an issue with a scam page taking the full screen with some scam pay us to free your phone. It just changed the homescreen and hid the icons.
Easily fixed.
But i still did a factory reset afterwards, easier than messing with apps to see which one caused it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
AndyPix - I hope you do not mind I have sent you a PM. 'It' has come back - that unwanted window taking over my tablet Chrome browser the same as before.
I have come out of it and I am posting here on my laptop. Please see my PM, thank you. (I also wonder if it is a coincidence or maybe relevant that the 'window' as far as I can remember seems to come when I am browsing on eBay - but I cannot be certain.)

I believe you need to do this on the device itself, not on another device with a synched account.0

Thank you DoaM - that is probably why it did not work and I have the 'adware' 'window' back. It is so frustrating not being good with technology - yet I am so grateful to all the good folks on this forum who give their advice so freely - it is very much appreciated.

Although im happy to receive PM's - i think its best if this is discussed in open forum incase it helps anyone else
OP, as you seem to suspect that there seems to be some corralation to the fact that you are accessing ebay when this window appears , can i ask , are you browsing to ebay by using a shortcut or favourite that you have created ?
And just so im clear, this ONLY happens when using chrome , correct ?0 -

I understand - and thank you. Yes - always Chrome and only on my tablet. I don't have eBay as a bookmark or saved on my tablet - I always just 'Google' eBay then log in. (It is bookmarked on my laptop - but I mostly use Firefox or occasionally Internet Explorer there.)
I cannot be sure if it is always eBay - but I remember (before today as well as today) logging in on my laptop to make sure I was logged out of eBay because the window on my tablet prevented me from 'going back' to log out.
I'm on my laptop now - and have not touched my tablet since closing it after the 'window' came back.
Update at 7 pm. Just did another factory reset on my tablet. Browsed on eBay without logging in and the 'window' came back.
Just signing off now and will check again later if possible and, if not, tomorrow, thank you.

why nor download the ebay app.
you dont need the browser if there is an app available

Probably because of lack of confidence - but I tend not to download apps (only one I paid for a while ago from the Play Store.)
I'm even less confident now!
Thanks ballyblack.
