Here to give an update and thank everyone for their support. The money from the house eventually came through although it took several months. Paid off all the cards and closed the accounts so I'm now debt free. Started a couple of savings accounts too. That's the good news.

Still supply teaching (although I've had plenty of work) and after Christmas ended up back at the school I was at in October for the rest of the school year. Desperate to get out and find something else though, more reliable and less stressful. Health been up and down, been through a rough patch but got through without blowing my budget. Did have a few setbacks but definitely going in the right direction. Still absolutely petrified history will repeat itself though despite my best efforts.

Still waiting for treatment for the depression, they couldn't fit me in and weren't taking appointments last time I checked. Going to get back to them tomorrow, cannot let myself get into such a situation again.

Still need to have a serious talk with husband about money. He has reverted to how he was, no discussion of budget or household finances, nothing about future planning. I tried to involve him in setting up my savings accounts but he didn't offer any advice. My past debts are rarely brought up, only to have a small dig at how stupid I've been. Despite now being debt free, I will post and come back on here often to keep me on track, so scared am I of it happening again.

Good that you have now cleared your debts and are starting to save. As you have struggled in the past can I make a few suggestions to get you on the straight and narrow?

Close the credit cards, store cards and any catalogues so you are not tempted to spend on them.

Write yourself a budget and review it regularly to make sure you are on track.

Set up savings accounts which you say you have already done. Save an emergency fund and one for your car and maybe a general one for holidays, Xmas and annual bills.

Keep talking to your husband about you being involved in household finances but be prepared for him to take a while to trust you again.
