Question about insurance

I am currently deciding what to do, I have a car that’s MOT runs out in January & my insurance runs out in February. Now I want to know if I can continue to pay insurance for that month but not drive the car due to no MOT until my insurance runs out then sell the car without MOT. Could I do this or would my insurance go VOID the moment I have no MOT?

    No

Having no mot won't void your insurance.

Some unscrupulous insurers put this in the policy however it is unenforceable. The FOS have ruled so.
  • Unless it's going to be hugely expensive compared to get am MOT compared to the value of the car, it would make sense to get it done or to sell it a month or two earlier than planned whilst the MOT is still valid.
  • When I tried to insure my car whilst it was SORNed, with no tax & no MOT, they refused, saying that there was "no insurable interest".
  • Even though my car will have no MOT it will still have tax, which I would still keep parked on the street, I’m fully comp so protected against theft etc so surely there is still a insurance interest?
  • You need an mot to keep it on the road.
  • And if it's taxed then it must be insured

That's very strange because to get tax you need to have it MOT'd and insured

So how can you be refused insurance without tax when you need insurance to get it?

    No, he cannot.

If the car does not have a valid MOT it is an offence to use or keep it on the public highway.
