£75 spent this morning, in anticipation of the half-term visit from my B-i-L & (highly allergic) nephew. All a bit up in the air with my mother, who has deteriorated in hospital, so I may "vanish" from cyberspace at any moment & cease to care very much about this month's budget... but I'm determined to at least try to stick to it.

I've got a horrible feeling my boy will want to go trick or treating this year. I know it's the norm now for all kids to dress up as any old thing and just go round the neighbourhood collecting sweets but i don't really like it much. I don't mind dishing out the sweets i just don't really like the idea of taking my boy round the street expecting sweets from all all and sundry.
I don't think it's the norm, going 'round asking strangers for sweets - I used to panic they might be poisoned (a bit of an over reaction I know). I got 'round it by either having a mini party or pre arranging with friends and/or family for us to call on.

I've been batch cooking for the freezer yesterday and today. I'm just hoping that I've made enough space taking things out to put the cooked meals back in
    Lol .... sounds like me.

Best wishes for your mum. It's very worrying. My mum went through a stage a few years ago where she was having regular strokes, but thankfully she is fine now.

My budget has been going so well this month. Spent £5.30 on
    2 x bags of potatoes 29p each
    3 x broccoli 10p each
    1 x mushroom stirfry 29p
    40 x kiwi fruit £1
    22 x fresh figs £1
A ton of fresh ginger £1
2 packs of breakfast muffins 78p
AND a packet of biscuits (!!)

I did buy 3 jars of Vegenaise, but this will come out of my bulk buy. Nice to see so many people doing so well this month. Have a lovely w/e everyone - I have updated sigs.
  • Declaring this month at £429.04.
Slightly over but still inside the annual budget.
I am finding that staples have increased in price along with a return to buying fresh fruit and veg (garden producing very little now) is the reason my spend has gone up. I'll be trying to use frozen produce where I can and use up supplies before the festive season starts to get underway.
I'll see you over in the November thread.
  • Hi Folks,

Spent £3.31 in L!dl but sadly no oven chips so had to go next door to Mr T and ended up spending £1.50 on steak cut chips, its a bigger bag but at least I do have freezer space.

Even more determined now to make do with what I have and hang on to my last £10.08.
    Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
    July - Aug Grocery spends = £219.21
    Sept - Grocery spends = £ 32.53

£52.23 spent in Aldo and with some spends of DH yesterday I am on £68.72 for the week and £327.14/£350 for the month.

I will probably go over the £350 budget a bit as I don't think £22.86 will be enough to cover the last week but will do what I can to keep it low. DH and I are back on SW with a vengeance as our 12 week membership is up the first week of November and we have not been sticking to it very well recently.

Hopefully I have done my last shop - £27.11 + £8.35 for my stores. This means my total for October is a smidge under £160 and £40 inside my average target. When DH gets paid on Thursday I shall buy my Christmas cake ingredients and make them to get them done!

November is up, by the way

thriftwizard – So sorry to hear about your mother and I hope all goes well for you both.

Save Dosh – Wow, that was a good haul!

Friday’s usual shopping trips to the market and Sainsbobs came to a total of £35.02, a bit more than expected but still within the weekly budget and nothing more needed, apart from milk on Tuesday. Plenty of YS items on offer but I bought just one - a pack of breaded cod loins, half-price at £1.45 for two. I also got a pack of cooking bacon for £1.50. Now opened/trimmed/frozen, there are two thick pieces like bacon chops, 4 thinner pieces and the rest has been cut into small bits that will do for something like a pasta bake or in a quiche. Altogether, 3 meals for us so really pleased with that. :)

    This week’s planned dinners are:

Sun – Mustard & honey roast gammon, broccoli, dauphinoise potatoes
Mon – Gammon slices, cauliflower cheese, potato wedges
Tues – Chicken stir-fry with noodles
Wed – Breaded cod loin, chips, peas
Thur – Pork steak in BBQ sauce, braised red cabbage, potato croquettes
Fri – Battered haddock, mushy peas
Sat – Prawn curry & rice
Be kind to others and to yourself too.

    £98.45 on food/drink + £34.65 for 'Social' stuff

I've lost track a bit because my cat decided to go AWOL for a few days before coming back home with a broken tail  resulting in a trip to the vet and kitty medications - which are not counted in this budget but did require me to use the pre-counted cash - hence me not being 100% on what I spent where...

My best guess is £37 spent since last check-in.

Around £17 on food - Bought cooking bacon, frozen veg, bread, pork ribs, butter, sugar, fruit, pre-made couscous salad for lunches at work, Heck sausages, eggs, mushrooms, shredded swede, yogurt...maybe a couple of other things I've since forgotten....

Around £20 was on lunch with a friend - I forgot it was her birthday so took her for a meal :o

    £116 on food/drink + £55 for 'Social' stuff
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

House Bought July 2020 - 19 years 0 months remaining on term
Next Step: Bathroom renovation booked for January 2021
Goal: Keep the bigger picture in mind...
  • Bit more on grocery spends! My total is now £164.78 so getting tight but it's doable. I have a fridge full of fresh veggies as the veg box came on Thursday and included a lovely big butternut squash. As it also contained leeks I think I'll do a big leek and butternut squash risotto tomorrow and that will do for a few meals next week. Can't stash in the freezer as running low on freezer safe tubs. I also have loads of dried beans in stock so think I might try something with black beans and broccoli - not gotten any further than that!
