  • The milk run at Lidder turned into 11.80, some veg, pasta, chicken legs, smoked mackeral, ham and milk.
I shouldn't need anything else now for over a week. it leaves me less than 10.00 for the last week so really loads of NSDs ahead!

Spent 26.98 at Lidl and 49.85 at Sainsbury.

OH is allergic to something in stock cubes but they had Kallo organic ones on offer so I bulk bought 15 packets Also bulk bought 12 tins of pilchards which were on offer as they are a good stand by for fussy animals, plus 8 pints of cream to make ice cream as I have 4 trays of eggs (120 eggs) needing to be used up. Also bought 3lb of diced braising steak as I need to make some steak and kidney pies/pudding for the freezer - I've left the ox kidney which was already in the freezer from earlier to defrost overnight so I'll do all that tomorrow.

I've worked out that I'll get approx 20 -25 individual steak and kidney pies or puddings especially if I add some carrots, leeks/onions plus a few lentils to bulk it out a bit and approx 15 litres of icecream or even more if I make some meringues first and crush them to add to some of the icecream. I'm going to make brown bread icecream - my favourite - using left over crusts in the freezer, lemon icecream with the lemons in the fridge before they shrivel, ginger with some bendy ginger in the fridge and bramble using some of this years fruit.

    Busy day tomorrow :rotfl:

Had to spend £6 buying teas and coffees for some early arriving delegates this morning as the refreshments got stuck in traffic :rotfl:

At least I'll get to claim it back, but not sure if it should be counted in this months budget...

It probably balances out as I've ended up with a load of fresh fruit for free (see the magic of alliteration) as everyone went for the biscuits :D

I'm also primed and ready for any leftover quiche and sausage rolls this afternoon - space reserved in the fridge and everything :rotfl:

    £98.45 on food/drink + £34.65 for 'Social' stuff
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

  • Hi all, I used to participate in these Grocery challenge, but had gone off the radar slightly!
Need to get back to watching our budgets again, so will be joining in again.
Usually shop on Thursdays so will set a budget and post here on thursday.
I'm going to try and make my own treats and snacks for half term as we usually spend a fortune on cake bars etc.
Anyone got any savoury snack ideas as my boys are always hungry and I try to limit the amount of sugar each day.

    Here you go :)
My only recommendation would be to soak the seeds longer if possible - mine were soaked for about 3.5 hours and there was still some bits, which I don't mind, but would have been nice to get a smooth consistency. The other thing is watch the amount of water. I used the full larger amount and mine is very soft and spreadable! Again, no problem, but if you want it firm you'll need to watch the liquids. Enjoy!

The Full Helping is the new blog I'm additced to. It's healthy, mostly simple, and vegan, therefore ticking all my boxes!

1 cup sunflower seeds, soaked 2-3 hours, rinsed, and drained
    ½ teaspoon salt
1 small garlic clove, roughly chopped (optional)
    1 tablespoon lemon juice
    1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
    Pepper to taste
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
    ⅓-1/2 cup water

Place all ingredients except for the water in the bowl of a food processor fitted with the S blade. Pulse it a few times to break the seeds down. Turn the motor on, and drizzle ⅓ cup water into the machine in a thin stream as the mixture is processed. Stop a few times to scrape the machine down. You're aiming for the texture of a thick hummus; add just enough water to achieve that texture. When the mixture is smooth and thick, transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes before using. Seed cheese will keep in an airtight container, refrigerated, for up to four days.

I know it sounds a bit random but with my ex I always tried to make sure I had some hard boiled eggs, cold chicken drumsticks, either ham or sliced home cooked gammon, popcorn - and lots of sugar free cereals with yogurt.

Some people just have hollow legs - Protein for the win!

  • Hi All,

had another spend on Saturday - I fancied some smoked haddock for tea and hate the bright yellow stuff from the supermarkets so spent £2.60 on the haddock and oatcakes at the fish shop and another £4.72 at @ldi for cold meat and salad stuff for lunches this week. That leaves £19.99 for the rest of the month, the only thing I may need to buy soon is a loaf of bread, fingers crossed.
    Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
    July - Grocery spends = £113.01
