Our local thrift shop takes hangers but only if they're neatly bundled (elastic bands at both ends and the middle. Freecycle's an idea as a lot of people who regularly car-boot would need them. My growing collection certainly stopped me bringing them home.

I stopped taking the hangers in clothes shops long ago but still have loads, however, I find they are running down due to natural causes. They do break easily cos they,re cheapies then I do throw them in the bin cos dont know what else to do with them. If you leave them in the shop you buy from surely they reuse them, eventually the problem will be solved

the metal ones make useful car aerials also they make very useful divining rods, and if you pull the hook bit of the plastic and wood ones you have a cheap boomerang.

also if you know anyone in a play about Quasimodo leave a coat hanger in his coat for a cheap hump.

M&S were offering a coathanger amnesty I remember seeing on the news. Looks like it was a trial and has passed, maybe it would be worth contacting them to see if they are planning on rolling this out nationally?

  • Childrens coathangers might be wanted by your local NCT group for NCT sales - or offer them for that purpose on Freecycle!

Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.

wow thank you everyone for you comments, hugely appreciated!

I will try them on my local freecycle, especially as we have lots of students on it as well....I don't think my charity shop wants anymore coat hangers...and we are in short supply of charity shops here which is a shame.

    Thanks!
