Email from Natwest asking for my bank details

Options
For several weeks I have on a nearly daily basis received emails from Natwest asking for my bank details, account number, pasword etc.

I usually just delete them as I do not and never have had an account with Natwest and I guessed that this was someone, not Natwest, trying to get my bank details.
I have done my homework I read this site regularly! so I know that I should never do this

I have wondered if someone who did have a Natwest account and was busy and in a hurry might just do it because the email contents are quite persistant

Today I have received another email, in capitol letters:-

DEAR NATIONAL WESTMINSTER BANK CUSTOMER

NATIONAL WESTMINSTER BANK CUSTOMER SERVICE REQUESTS YOU TO COMPLETE ONLINE BANKING CUSTOMER FORM

THIS PROCEDURE IS OBLIGATORY FOR ALL INTERNET BANKING USERS OF NATIONAL WESTMINSTER BANK

PLEASE CLICK HYPERLINK BELOW TO ACCESS ONLINE BANKING CUSTOMER FORM

REMOVED

PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL

Copyright 2007. National Westminster Bank PLc. All Rights Reserved

This is exactly how it is written. Someone is up to something illegal aren't they? What do I do about it?

    Tell the bank.

I had emails from 'Barclays' and so did my husband, at the time he wasn't a customer! We told them so they could investigate. Never got back to us but hopefully it did some good.

just delete them , they are scam emails trying to steal your log on details (it's not the real Natwest web site)

    I get about 10 a day

  • Forward it to Natwest... phishing@natwest.com

    • Watch out for fraudulent (or 'phishing') e-mails
Phishing is a fraud technique commonly used to attempt to trick people into revealing their security number and password to fraudsters.

Here is how a phishing scam typically works: The fraudster sends out a fake e-mail that has been designed to look like it comes from a reputable source (like NatWest). This fake e-mail asks for security details or directs customers to a counterfeit banking or commerce site. At the counterfeit site, the fraudster asks the customer to enter their complete security details - password, security questions, user name... the sky is the limit. These stolen security details are then used to commit fraud.

If you receive an e-mail requesting your security details do not reply and do not follow the instructions even if the e-mail suggests that you need to take immediate action to stop your account being frozen or it indicates that you may incur a fine if you don't. These are just tricks that the fraudster is using to manipulate you in to giving away your vital details.

If you suspect a phishing attack, call us at 0845 605 0789 or forward the suspect e-mail to phishing@natwest.com

I knew it wasn't real but someone who had an account with natwest and was busy and in a hurry may answer it

I have since read the post about false transaction on people accounts

    It's quite creepy isn't it?

Not really it goes on all the time now. I see loads of them at work.

They have now started sending out ones for monster.com so watch out.

I've been getting two to three of these a day recently as well. I've been deleting them as I don't bank with Natwest. Thanks to spookylukey for telling me how to report them. I appreciate that.
  • NEVER click on one of these links, even just to have a peek at the phising site.

I work for the Co-op Bank and today we have had a roadshow from the IS Security boys as part of National Fraud Awareness Week (or whatever it's called).

Anyway, they set up a live simulation showing how a trojan can be downloaded unknowingly just by clicking on one of these links. The 'master' PC was then able to observe all key strokes on the 'slave' and even do things like open the slave's CD drawer remotely!

They also played a video of the screen of a PC infected by a genuine phising virus. The user typed in the true smile web address & clicked on the Bank Log-In. The virus then activated itself and inserted extra fields alongside the genuine sort code & account number fields, requesting all of the extra security questions - first/last school, mem date, etc. If the user 'entered' on this, the virus would then transmit all details to the phisher's server.

    Scary.

I know it's not the intention, but the link in your post is active, so someone could accidentally click on it from your post.
