What on earth is wrong with size 10/12? I'm that and am quite slim.

Are you using American sizes? A size 6 in the UK would be tiny, British size 10.

Just to be clear, my previous post was in jest. My wife was a size 10/12 when I first met her but she lost weight because she wanted to and before we got together. Having said that, it was probably a contributory factor in us getting together.

There is nothing wrong with a size 10/12 if it suits you, however, my wife looked positively chubby at a size 10/12. She is happy the size she is now which is nominally a (UK) size 6 The clothes in her wardrobe actually range from a US size zero to a UK size 10. She isn’t afraid to buy a bigger size and alter it to fit, if necessary. She does this quite often with skirts as she likes them to sit low on her hips.

The most stupid thing I heard today, was the guy who tried to hunt hegehogs for food, because he thought they were pigs which lived in bushes at the side of the road;)

I can't even see her nose, because it is in the cashew nut packet at the moment:eek:
It sounds like the age-old story:

Single woman gets home, sees what's in the fridge, and heads for bed.

Married woman gets home, sees what's in the bed, and heads for the fridge.

Could she not go on the 5:2 diet with you? Then the other days she could have cashew nuts. The 5:2 always works. I am on it at the moment to lose some fat from around my waist.

I find that just doing the 5:2 is much easier than trying to diet. You shouldn't be doing both. The 5:2 has clear rules so its more difficult to break them.

As for exercise it has been proved that its not a very efficient weight loss tool but is good for getting fit and toned.

As long as the other diet isn't too extreme so that that the contrast between fast and non-fast days is maintained I don't see why the 5:2 and other diets shouldn't be combined.

Earlier this year, I lost two stone in 11 weeks low carbing while following the 5:2 routine at the same time.

Exercise was mainly restricted to weight training (Stronglifts 5x5) every other day.

    I've lost 2st on 5:2 and OH lost 3st.

It is low calorie, but for us the most important aspect was that our appetites reduced in general. We were also eating by the clock and habit, rather than thinking about it. We learned maintenance strategies, too.

I'm coming up to my first anniversary of hitting my target. I shall treat myself to a facial on 20th. September!

OP, it's important that you do it together.

Someone telling me they can eat industrial quantities of cashew nuts but still lose weight would push me straight to the nearest McDonalds via the Krispy Kreme 24 hr drive through.

Keep your weight loss to yourself and leave her to come to her own conclusion that she needs to get her !!!! into gear.

    Two things :-
    • I dont see where the O/P said he was telling anyone they could eat industrial quantities of cashew nuts and lose weight? It sounded to me like his O/H was hoovering them up unprompted.
    • I dont see where he was doing anything other than "keeping his weight loss to himself" - his issue was his O/H half blaming him for her not losing / putting on weight.

Andy you could try what worked for me. Just incrementally buy her nice clothes that are slightly too small. My wife was a size 10/12 when I first met her but is a size 6 now.

When my wife turned 40 she committed to walking a mile a day to help lose weight.

Shes 46 now and i've no idea where she is....

This is the stupidest thing I have read today.

Do you actually want to support her, or just nag and rub her nose in it?

Support her hoovering up bag loads of cashew nuts then being blamed for it?

I'm all for people losing weight together, but its difficult when one partner isnt pulling their weight.
