sorry for being awol. it's life for me unfortunately. DS back to school, DH being a usual pain in the neck, and other things going on.

I also have issues with my internet on a nearly daily basis, so I rarely use laptop now because of that.

I got so fed up with it, I got onto live chat with sky, said what can you offer me? free broadband for 12 months I just pay telephone line rental. Even doing that is cheaper than telephone line with vermin, who were not prepared to offer me free 12 month broadband. Instead the lady I spoken to decided to tell me I was wrong in what I was saying, I am a heavy user., blah blah, blah. the usual stuff they give me. they have on their system I have 4 phones linked to wifi. yes I do, but what they fail to also see is that 2 of the phones are constantly switched off unless I switch them on to check an app or run something.

Otherwise only 2 phones linked to wifi. compared to my friends, our household is tame. We don't have xboxes or ps4. I run videos on my tablet for swagbucks and instagc and DS watches youtube.

now tell me I am a heavy user household.

anyway their cancellation team called after I told the first woman I am an EX IT person (true, I am, I ran my own service desk for an Insurance company) and I know perfectly well what I am talking about when I say their router refuses to acknowledge my laptop due to a Windows 10 issue. The cancellation team started doing the same, we can offer a discount of £10..... ok... no thanks.....by the way I am ex IT, I know there is an issue with my laptop win 10 and your virgin connection, it refuses to consistently acknowledge my laptop. it takes me an hour each time to get it to connect. I don't have that time to waste.

fair enough, sorry you are leaving, you will get a partial refund after your services are terminated.

    thanks vermin.

S*y are offering me £15 a month telephone line rental charge. believe me its a big saving for me for each month! I won't include it. I will include my refund when i receive it in october.

Aesop, you have my genuine sympathy over your internet issues. I hope you can get things sorted really soon.

I've been having connection issues myself this past week, something I thought had ended for good once I switched providers from BT to PlusNet. PlusNet is a BT company though so what could I expect?. My connection kept dropping out after a few minutes plus stayed 'out'sometimes for hours. I 'lost' several profitable PA opportunities that way:(. Plus, trying to organise travel, accommodation, flowers and so on for the upcoming funeral has been a nightmare.

I managed to get answered by PlusNet's phone helpline after holding for 20 minutes but it's always worth waiting as they go the extra mile to help and explain clearly what needs to be done. It's a free call anyway. The customer service people are UK based and that always helps;). The man who dealt with my query asked me several questions and then said he'd send an email with a link to a video outlining what to check and try before calling again. But that turned out to be useless as I was unable to connect for the best part of the following 10 hours so wasn't able to watch the video:eek:. I've now seen it and done the checks but am still having occasional drop-outs so will have to get that sorted tomorrow. I've had enough for one day.

I just wonder whether the Outreach people who are constantly fiddling about in all the green cabinets between us and our exchange (over 2 miles away) have messed up the settings. I know I haven't done anything here to cause any problems. You mentioned Windows 10, I wonder whether it's an issue with that?

I get a message on the Windows Diagnostics that my computer is 'trying to use a DNS server that is incorrect or doesn't exist'. Have you any idea what that means? I haven't changed anything at this end, just been carrying on as always.

    well done! :beer::j

I keep trying to remind people claim ppi now, they can only say no, because soon you won't be able to claim anymore, or claims will be limited.

so get in there now while you can, anyone else who is still thinking about it. no time for thinking. put your claim in. they can only say no.

I agree with that, Aesop:T. I've had 2 smallish amounts upheld, small only because they were for small loans taken out over a very short period. One other had to go to the Ombudsman but was worth the extra work as that small one too was upheld in the end.

If anyone else is thinking of reclaiming I echo what Aesop said about time running out. This applies especially if you have to escalate a refused claim to the Ombudsman as that takes extra time.

Well done to all who have had PPI success, such as you, tryingtoavoiddebt :T:j:beer:.. Good luck to all those still to give it a go:beer:

I meant to reply before, yes the men in the green cabinets, can have an effect on your basic broadband.

yes I get that message about dns as well as the router refuses to acknowledge my laptop.

do you have a cable to connect laptop to router? an ethernet cable? if you can sit at it easily, try that.

Yes I do have an Ethernet cable. Do you mean to use all the time I'm using the laptop or just to check connectivity? I certainly don't want to sit in the room where the router is (a small, dark and unused area but the only possible place to put the router as it's where the phone socket is). I understand it's not advisable to use extension cables to place the router somewhere more comfortable or I'd move it permanently just in case this proves to be a frequent problem.

My connection has been fine today whenever I've tried it. Probably tempting fate though;)

I don't know why some of the figures have spaces between them. There aren't any in the draft but when I post they appear. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for doing the totals, it's good to see how we're all getting on and some great totals.I'm sorry I have no idea about the spaces.

Kantankrus Mare I have more pension news, my dad found a statement sent to me in 2010, it said I had £1,200 in there! Fingers crossed, that's going to be a good amount now! Good luck again finding out more about yours - I was only in the job this applied to for a few months.

I've got October under way with 13p off Qmee
