Is working for CapQuest something you would consider?

 Hiya lovelies!
My son is 19 and having trouble finding a decent paying job since he left college in July.
A bloke he knows has offered to put a good word in for him where he works - which is apparently CapQuest.
The job is ringing people up about their debts and they earn commission on top of their basic wage if they persuade enough people to pay up. (They have targets set.)
The money is pretty good...and he's been unemployed 2.5 months...
Would you do it???

Tough one this. Having had dealings with Capquest, I have been both intimidated and helped by them. My account was reffered by egg in error and before Capquest accepted Egg's error, I felt harrassed and intimidated.
When Egg confirmed it was an error, they were very nice, surprise surprise.
A few months later, Egg again referred my account in error, and this time the lady from Capquest rang me as soon as she received it to say that it had been received and did I want to take it up with Egg before anything else happened - they actually were very helpful.
So, nice people do work there, someone has to. Also, if DS needs a job, perhaps he should do it - bit like the "would you work at McD's thread" - people who are veggie or vegan said they worked there....is this really much difference?
The thing that I would do though if I were you, is to really show him some of the threads about Capquest here. Let him see things from the other side.
It will either put him off working there, or will give him an insight into some of the "human" side of debt collecting, meaning he would be one of the "nice" ones there.
But tricky........good luck what ever he decides to do.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I'd have to say no. My conscience couldnt take it either. I already work in a Building Society, but wouldnt feel comfortable in a debt collection capacity!#KiamaHouse0

I'm sorry Jacks - the answer is definitely NO. I have been unemployed, without benefits, for over a year, and have registered on several websites for 'Sales Oriented Jobs'. I receive about 3 job 'vacancies' a day and probably one per week is for 'debt collection', even though I have specifically asked NOT to receive vacancies in the financial sector.
Just looking through the 'Job Description' turns my stomach.
I'm really sorry that your son is out of work - I hope he finds a really good job soon.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Personally I would. Because it would be nice to know that at least one debt collector (ie me) wouldn't be harassing and intimidating...Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Didn't we have a poster, last year, who went to work for Moorcroft, on doorstep collection. I'm not sure, but I think it may have been Kathfish - I hope she'll forgive me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, I know that she started off well intentioned - even plugging this site to her 'clients'.
It would be interesting to know whether the pressures of 'targets' got in the way of ethics.

Yes I would. Although at 19 I don't think I could have handled it. You need to remember that there can be abuse on both sides and people in debt can be unstable at times.Barclaycard 3800

rog2 i think that might have been me you were talking about i worked for a company similar to provident and i can honestly say i was a nice doorstep collector but then i was getting paid whether i collected money or not i left the company after 6 months though as my boss was a b1tch and was trying to pressure me into getting more sales and i was thinking no some of these paople cant afford what they have never mind take on more ...but i will be truthfull with you if i had to take a job working for capquest or any other dca and if it was between that and possibly losing my house/family etc i would take it i would try to be one of the decent dca workers but i would do my job ...and lets be honest here not everyone is interested in paying off their debt some people just dont care and arnt interested in sorting out their problems .. on a similar vein i doubt very many prostitues choose to become prostitutes because they like the work..0

I really appreciate the dilemma you are in.
I work in a shop and part of my job is to make people sign up for store cards (all you who have debts on them, please don't hate me!) I find it so hard when I have a naive 19 year old in front of me, saying how great it is that she can buy all the clothes she wants and only repay minimum payments  .
I am actually very naughty at work, when I have to offer cards I quietly advise customers to come back to store the next day, clear the account and cut the card up as soon as it pops through the door. This is against store policy but I find it immoral when I see the hard pressurising selling done by some of my colleagues.
At my old job I saw a colleague sign a man up for a store card who was deaf and with severe learning difficulties, he clearly didn't understand what he was signing up for. My contract came up for renewal 1 week later, I couldn't bear to work somewhere so ruthless and I left. Total debt £21,000 :eek:Weight loss to date - 2 st, 2lb:j0 -
I couldn't. I know the right thing to do would be take the job and lead by example, be nice and help the clients. But I just couldn't work in that environment, with people being bullies. I'd end up calling them all ****ers and punching people.
I would have much more pride mugging grandmas than I would working for/with those low life scumbags who can only aspire to be pond life.:A
