Sorry slightly off topic. But did any of your kids have cavities despite good oral hygiene?

Worried DS (7) inherited DH bad teeth (he's super vigilant about the kids' brushing etc) . He's been to the dentist since he was 6 months. Brushes twice daily after brekkie and before bed (not sure if in school). Only drinks milk and water (his sister would drink anything if you'd let her). Ok, they have sweeties or crisps after dinner as we don't do deserts (no sweets/crisps in school), weekends etc. Discovered two cavities near the gums on his bottom front teeth . Thought we were so good and so far the dentist was impressed with the state of his teeth. Worried he has weak enamel or sth. We'll see the dentist for another check up soon anyway, just wondering about your experiences.

Our dentist recommended brushing teeth at least 30 minutes after anything to eat or drink as the enamel on the teeth may be vulnerable before that time.
There are various posts if you Google "teeth brushing time after eating" which explains it better than I can.

Aye, that's what we do. There's at least half an hour between them e. g. they just get brushed before we leave the house in the morning way after brekkie. Anyway, Sorry to go off topic last night. Was just worried.

Yay, payday. Good chunk of the CC. Will do my budgets for October today

  • Morning all :D Check in 29/30

Back home from hospital as all went well and I'm much happier recovering at home. Thank you all for your good wishes, much appreciated.

Have managed to add 2 more NSD's mainly because we don't need any shopping (we've run out of budget anyway) and you can't spend anything in hospital. I counted the taxi fare home as medical expenses!

The heating has been fixed - it turned out it wasn't broken - I think it's called 'user error' Apparently it wouldn't come on because the thermostat registered the air temperature as high enough. If I'd just turned the thermostat down the heating would have come on to make the place as warm as the temperature setting. Not sure if I've explained that properly but I got what he meant! Anyway, still not needed heating on so that's good.

    Me time - yep

Using up - nothing left lurking in the freezer

    Beauty spends - 40/10

    Heating - nope

Exercise - nope, not been very diligent with this at all!

    Shopping - 160/160

    NSD - 16/18

Thanks for the challenge, it's really helped focus on mindless spending. I'll pop over to the new thread and sign up to keep it going

    Have a lovely day scrimpers

  • Morning :) I've taken the day off sick - experiencing a lot of anxiety at the moment, and then feel anxious about phoning in sick about being anxious! - which has given me some time to go through all spends this month - it has been illuminating!

groceries £144.76/£160 - the actual money we put in the account for GC is £180pcm so that has helped with other spends

I gave a £20 donation to a charity that helps refugees £10 of this was from the lo GC budget & £10 from interest received from bank :) so neutral spend :)

we needed a new bed & mattress so household spends from savings was £420.50  eye watering but cheap when you consider it's a super king size

my car needed emergency work that set me back £298 most of this came from my car piggy but had to dip into savings to the tune of £46 :(

beauty £4.30/£10 this is high for me :rotfl: but got the benefit lipstick free with a magazine as per the newsletter a few weeks ago - totally do not regret :D

general spends was £26.30 Socialising £68 high but £50 was a festival at the start of the month

I spent £102.99 on clothes for me  and £72.49 on clothes for madam  both of these very unusual but with the colder months coming it couldn't be helped. For madam this has no impact on my day to day account as I save her CB and just use that when she needs things

    emergency dental work £21.50

Overall it has been a shockingly expensive month! The good thing - for me - has been recording it all. Have missed a couple of things but as they have been bought on cc/debit card it has been easy to not miss them. Also writing it down and then today categorising what I've spent where is illuminating and I can see how next month will be better/where I can cut back.

Exercise hasn't been great for the last week as I was ill, now I'm ill in another way....

thinking today and tomorrow will be SFDs so should at least get to 10

Going to go and think about targets for next month....
    DF as at 30/12/16
    Wombling 2025: £87.12
    NSD March: YTD: 35
Grocery spend challenge March £253.38/£285 £20/£70 Eating out
    GC annual £449.80/£4500
    Eating out budget: £55/£420
    Extra cash earned 2025: £195
  • Hello again,

Thanks for the summaries and reflections on this last month that have already been posted.

Spend day here today. £5 in a charity cake sale and will go out tonight to say good by to one of my bosses.

Did my budgets for October and it's not looking too bad. Got some paid of the credit card, put £200 aside for the service in October. Luckily the after school club is a 4 week month rather than 5 so that makes it cheaper than budgeted. Still waiting for the nursery bill and see if that is 4 or 5. This will obviously make next month more expensive but would give us more lee way this month for the school holidays etc and next month it's easier to control spending in other areas.

    .

Yes, one out of 4 of mine has 2 fillings, both on the side of the tooth rather than the chewing surface. Dentist said it was congenital weakness of the enamel in those spots rather than bad brushing. Suggested perhaps I had a virus at that stage of gestation (see, it is always Mums' fault)

They are still baby teeth so they are not really too bothered(he is nearly 10 so they won't be there for much longer - probably why they are not bothered), DH has very little enamel on his teeth, dentists puzzled, but it is just how his teeth are. Nothing can be done about it.
