Whenever I do a disk cleanup I always just leave the automatically selected options ticked as I don’t know whether I should select the others. I’ve read what each item is by clicking on them, but it doesn’t really mean anything to me. On previous computers it used to say whether or not it’s safe to delete the files, but on my current one it doesn’t give a guidance. Can anyone tell me whether it’s a good idea to delete them all or just leave those automatically selected, please?

    Hi,

what system are you using now?

What did you do before, when you did get the information?

    Windows 7 Home Premium.

I can't remember what I used to do, I've had this one for a while now.

I just select everything on a disk cleanup. Why would you do otherwise, except for a good reason?

Not sure what you mean. I click on the disk cleanup and it presents a box with some items automatically ticked and others not ticked, each showing their value.

    Don't know, that's why I'm asking :)

as all my pc/laptops have small hard drives (120gb) i run disk cleanup at least once a month or after a windows update to free up disk space. the only box you may want to keep unchecked is the old windows folder. i alway clear it as it will probably be the largest file but if cleared you won't be able to revert back to a previous os without downloading all the files again or restoring from a disk image.

if you scroll down through box, and click, it'll give you a description of the item.

Yes, I mentioned in my first post that I did this, but the explanations doesn't mean much to me. As mentioned, my old PC used to give advice on whether or not it was safe to delete.
