Hi I just wanted to check.

My lodger usually pays her rent into my bank on 27th of the month but it hasn't gone through. I assume because today is a Sunday and tomorrow a bank holiday, would this be right? I messaged her yesterday to say it wasn't shown as pending and when i checked today which is the 27th it still isn't in the bank or showing as pending. I asked if she would make sure it is a standing order that is set up instead of a transfer, she reckons it is a standing order - would it not show on my bank statement if it was an incoming standing order as i can't see those words next to her name on previous payments, just bank transfer. Am i right in thinking a standing order would make sure payments are made on or, where there's a bank holiday, before the due date and would avoid this delay in rent going in?
    Many thanks

Take a wild guess, I suggest reading the thread title will provide a very big hint.

If this was Mumsnet wouldn't they lodger be referred to as DL "Darling Lodger" or the like?

    Two notes:
    1) SO may not show on pending items but a formal BACS payment (eg. a salary) normally does (at least for myself). But that's because the bacs process actually informs the bank it's on it's way (but doesn't credit/debit its account immediately). The full bacs process is more than 3 days (though consumers only see 3 days).
    2) If it was a "Transfer" rather than an SO, chances are it may well show up over the weekend (depends on banks - eg. If I transfer money to someone on a sunday via Internet Banking, it normally appears the same day, unless it gets flagged during compliance checks).
