Lodger payment on bank holiday weekend

Good grief. Rent is due today and you're getting all worked up already?
Open a bottle of wine (a nice cool white in this weather), sit back, and enjoy the sun for a couple of days.
If the money is still not there by close of play on Tuesday, offer your lodger a glass of whatever's left in the bottle :rotfl:) and ask about the rent.
Glad it's not just me who thought that.
Bit late now OP, but it might have been an idea to ask the question here (or google it) before asking your lodger. If I were in their shoes I'd be feeling a tad uncomfortable!2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -

I'm not worked up  just curious to how the standing order thing operated as I'm stuck at home for BH due to car off the road and I had hoped to do my monthly household accounts, which I usually do after rents gone in, so that I could check I had enough surplus to pay towards an unexpected car exhaust bill I will receive on Tuesday...now I can only eat chocolate (as can't drive to the shop for wine - very rural here) and wait until then and hope it goes in...which I'm sure it will now it's been explained... typical time for a car to go wrong...0 -

:rotfl: oh your contribution... that's so helpful xx
The point of a forum is for people to use the information in the future. Sorry you don't think it helpful, but for others in the same boat who use google for an answer may well find it something worth mulling over.
Much advice on here is given retrospectively. People come onto here saying what they've done and others say what they should have done.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -

I'm well aware of the point of a forum and appreciate the relevant replies to which I thanked each person. You didn't give advice, you posted a jibe. They really aren't the same thing

You've misinterpreted then. Sorry you've taken it as a 'jibe'.
Maybe I'm wrong and your lodger didn't feel at all embarrassed, awkward, uncomfortable or accused (like I would) by you asking them before checking.
I happen to think it's an important point for future readers to consider their lodger's feelings. Obviously you disagree, or are taking it as a personal insult - which is entirely your prerogative, but not how it was meant
In your shoes I'd have said 'good point, wish I'd have kept my mouth shut and checked first, I'd not really thought about how that might make them feel'. But hey ho, we're all different - the world would be a very boring place if we were all the same.
I've nowt more to add, just wanted to clarify

For the record, same view - I'd be slightly offended as the lodger and possibly a little worried how skint you are (and hence my security). It doesn't take a second to check that standing orders are usually visible next working day.
Very different response if you'd only asked on Tuesday.
Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I don't pester people on 'business' matters on holidays or weekends either (if I can possibly help it) - its downtime for most.
Perhaps unfair if you're a worrier but true nonetheless - surely you can still do the household accounts/work out the surplus as the amount coming in is known and fixed just not there yet?0 -
What the bloody hell is a BH? Why is this site now getting all the mumsnet rubbish and jargon!0

How can that possibly be interpreted as a jibe? hazy points out how your lodger (who has to share a house with you) might react, and suggests an alternative course of action for next time, or for others facing the same situation. A perfectly valid, and helpful, contributon.Glad it's not just me who thought that.

You appear to be super-sensitive and perhaps it would help (you) to acknowledge this tendancy and work on it? This is not meant as 'another jibe' but as an objective view which might help you in future.
Alternatively, post on mumsnet where it seems all posts start with "Really feeling your pain/concern/whatever......" or "Bless!" or "We're all thinking of you. ........" whereas over here we tend to stick to practical or legal advice and leave the emotions out of it.
