Company refuses to reimburse job interview expenses

  • If the recruiter is introducing the OP to the company, then he is surely responsible for the T & C under which he is recruited. Part of which is the reimbursement of the expenses to attend the interview. In this situation the OP has to be able to trust what the R says the company is offering. After all, the OP would not have attended the interview at all if the company were offering minimum wage. The R either made up the reimbursement thing, or presumably has it in writing from the company. In which case they can sue the company for breaking their promise, and reimburse the OP!

    I don't know what a recruiter's responsibilities are towards an employee. If the employer reneges on what he told the the recruiter he would offer the employee, can the recruiter be held responsible.

    One thing I am more certain about - a recruiter suing an employer is unlikely to ever be used by that employer again.

    I think this is the problem. Who is "my recruiter"? Were they acting for the OP or were they acting for the employer? In post #41 steampowered thought that in this situation the "recruiter" must be an agent of the prospective employer, but to me (because the OP is so vague) it's not clear.


    I quite like jobbingmusician's pov because the only party the OP seems to have been involved with during the recruitment process is the "recruiter".


    And I agree - I can't see the recruiter getting involved with suing company x.

    The glaring issue that the OP has:

    There is nothing from company X to confirm anything.

    I had an issue along similar lines (that I circumvented) by asking their HR department book the flights/hotel directly or someone from the company send something in writing confirming what they would reimburse etc

    The recruitment agency was like 'just book a flight to City airport and a hotel near Canary Wharf and they'll reimburse you when you arrive...'
