Out of principle I would expect them to pay up. They agreed to pay the full amount and then end up only having to pay 1/3 of the amount and they refuse. And they didn't offer the job anyway. No senseChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

Again, "a few quid" in your world seems very different than "a few quid" in mine.0 -

What park? No need for either of us to be there. Just pm him for bank details and you can pay him. Bank transfer or cheque. Simples.0 -

It certainly won't be for a NMW job where the poor sods there have to pay to get to the interview, pay for the uniform, pay for a pointless DBS check and then do hard graft that actually matters, you know, carers, cleaners, binmen (and women) where people would notice within days if such work stopped.
Stop whining about a miserable few quid.
This forum has sunk to a new low if we're only giving advice to people who have certain kinds of jobs, particularly as the OP doesn't say what his job is or how much he's paid.
Of course he cares about a few miserable quid - that's the whole idea of a money saving site isn't it?0 -

Sorry guys about the late reply, I thought I'd get email notifications.
Thanks for all the replies!
Company X still owes me ~400 GBP (cost of flying to the UK)If company Y and Z have already roughly split the expenses costs, are you considered "out of pocket"?
Company Y and Z only covered the cost of flying back and the accomodation.
It's the tech industry. I don't want to name the companies, but they all have tons of money so 400GBP is nothing to them. Also, what industry sees competitors split expenses "roughly equally" when one of them will have absolutely no benefit in it?
Yes, all of them.Is Company X in the UK?
No, they owe me 400GBP not 133. I did not bill them for 400GBP either, I've been asking for it through the recruiter.Have you billed the company for £133?
The recruiter asked me, and I told him. Obviously he told Company X.Who says they know the OP was attending other interviews?
It is a chair-warming job, but not a six-figure one unfortunately (not a NMW either though). 400GBP is not a few miserable quid for me right now.Somehow, I bet this 'job' is some chair-warming number on a six-figure salary. It certainly won't be for a NMW job.......Stop whining about a miserable few quid.
There are emails in which the recruiter alleges that Company X agrees to reimburse the flight costs, but there have been no conditions specified. They do have an HR website, but I couldn't find any policies related to this. I would notify them of course before actually taking legal action.OP, I assume you have emails where the company agrees to pay. Do they specify any conditions, like not interviewing elsewhere? Do they have a HR website with a policy on this kind of thing? Assuming not, I would send a letter before action.
So it seems like legal action (suing them) would be my option. Is there any UK law related to this so I can do a bit of research before actually going forward with sueing them?0 -
You need to write a letter before action.
IF that fails you take them to small claims courtChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Small claims court seems like a cheap and convenient way to settle this, thanks!0

A few points OP:
1. Apart from what your recruiter has told you, have you any evidence company X agreed to pay travel expenses? Will your recruiter be willing to give evidence to that effect in court if necessary?
2. I'm still not understanding what you are claiming. Are you saying company X agreed to pay all your travel expenses (outward and return flights plus accommodation) or just your outward flight (the £400)? If the former, are you saying the other two companies have actually reimbursed return flight and accommodation and you are only waiting on company x for the outward flight? If you want to make a legal claim you'll have to be much clearer.
3. How did the other two companies become involved in the expenses claim if company X had agreed to pay?
4. Why did your recruiter inform(!) company x you were attending other interviews? Wasn't that confidential?
I can understand that if you are attending multiple interviews the expenses "ought" fairly to be shared between interviewers, but I'm not sure you (or your recruiter) has approached this the best way.0
