Have you ever mistaken someone else car for your own?

I used to have a purple fiesta. Not a common car colour at the time. I'd parked an a cinema complex. On exiting, a group of guys had tried to get into my car. I thought they were going to steal it but realised what was going on. They stopped, looked at the registration plate and then moved on to their own car about four spaces down.0

I tried to get into a rather nice red Porsche 911 yesterday, I did not want to take the bus home :-)"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

My girlfriend tried opening the boot of this red red car the other week. I just watched her do it until she realised it wasn't my car :rotfl:
My car is the same colour, but different model and a few spaces up0 -
Twice I've been involved.
Once in the mid eighties, coming out of my sister's school late one night after she'd been in a play or something, the whole family got into our green Dolomite and my Dad started it up ready to drive away, before someone pointed out that ours didn't have the same colour seats as the one we'd got into. Locked it up and retired to our own car, a few yards down the road.
Second, outside my Mum's office once I got into a Pepper Red 1997 Escort 1.6CL (with supposedly secure Tibbe keys and an immobiliser), started it up, put it in gear and then realised that it smelt curiously strongly of pipe smoke. Looked around and realised it was the facilities manager, Mike's Escort and not mine.0 -
Back in the 1960's there were only five different keys for the whole Ford range. (this may be an urban myth, but there weren't many). Driving off in the wrong car happened quite often,I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

I can believe that. The door and bonnet lock key for my '67 Triumph Herald also opened the doors of my sister's Spitfire, her boyfriend's Spitfire, both their bonnet locks, and my filing cabinet at work.0 -
A few years ago I sat outside a south London station waiting for Mrs K3 when a (very nice) woman opened passenger door, got in and leant over to kiss me before realising her mistake - don't know who was more shocked, her, me, her partner who watched it all unwind from car behind or my wife who was walking across station concourse. Cars were similar colours but completely different makes/models0

Missus tried ripping the door handles off someone elses car. i was totally innocent of course
Identical car pulled into the supermarket carpark so i went to stand near that one, missus came back asking where the little one was. I said in the car, she tries the handles and says unlock it then. I say it us unlocked so she is tugging on the handle and asking where the little one is and why wont the door open.
Straight faced i said thats not our car, it was an isle over and a bit further down so diagonal to the one she was trying to break into.
She gave me a right slap
A long time ago a lady had locked herself out of her Metro, several people trying to be helpful and open the doors. I tried my key and it opened right up.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Late 70s, early 80s. Dark multi storey car park. Unlocked and got into Mk 1 Ford Cortina, key wouldn't turn in the ignition. "B******"
The I realised it wasn't my Cortina.
Ford locks from the 60s were well known for opening with a lolly stick once worn!0 -
