    Reality Check.

If we weren't leaving we would still be seeing upwards of 350,000 people coming to the UK every year. That is enough people to populate Newcastle and still have 60,0000 people left for a small town.

So how was staying ever going to have a good outcome?
In 2016 net immigration was 246,000 and 179,000 of those were non EU?

Not by anything like as much as we like to think it will. It'll affect some of the 500m people, but most will barely notice.

There's going to be a lot of rude awakening coming up.

But it's going to be bad for certain parts of EU the pain won't be spread evenly in Eu or UK.

Some people seem to like capitalism and it's harsh messages about competition when the rules don't impact on their lives. As soon as they are under pressure due to the same capitalist forces they cry foul and blame the immigrants.;)

Anyways, I said you were racist against English people - you are - I didn't say they had to be white.

Ethnic cleansing. Cleansing away the English.

Just joking. I'm sure the poster isn't into that. They are just comfortable with internal displacement of large numbers of the population.
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

    Eh?
Were we watching the same speech?
    :D
The only real difference from Lancaster House is the request for a maximum two year "implementation period"; a transition period if you will.
The Eurocrats have to agree to this first - and what do you think the chances of that are given their past performance?

It looks TBH like those Eurocrats have been wrong-footed again.
Because TM has asked for innovation and made (vague, admittedly) promises; but she has also restated that a no-deal is better than a bad deal.
So what happens when the EU continue to bluster?
Who is going to be seen as being uncompromising?
    :D

Nice one Jock. You called it just right.:rotfl::rotfl:

Nigel ain't happy - TM has done something right
‘What we’ve done today is we’ve kicked it into the long grass for another two years. It’s two fingers up to 17.4 million people who voted for Brexit.’

All I said was if their are no jobs/accommodation in the South East people like my neighbours kids could look elsewhere. That's what I did. Do people think they have some God given right to live and work in the same town otherwise they give up, throw their hands in the air and blame the immigrants? Im Welsh and when the mines closed we were told by Tebbit to get on our bikes. Now the types that are thanking Setmefree for calling me a racist are tories themselves. Like I said some people defend the laws of capitalism until they lose out or feel threatened and then suddenly they come over all protectionist:rotfl:

Theresa May gave the only speech she was able to. The results of the referendum are not conclusive enough for a hard Brexit, and the results of the general election don't even give the Tories a mandate to govern.

Hard Brexit is dead. Free movement and the UK contributing to the EU budget will continue in perpetuity. With us having no say in how the bloc is run.

Even by the standards of colossal stupidity the Right periodically inflicts on themselves, this was a foot shooting event of epic proportions.

    The Brexiter rally cry is

No deal is better than a bad deal.
    Today in Florence we had
No speech would have been better than a bad speech.

However if the speech does kick start the talks then I ask what have the British negotiators been doing since the talks started in June. Perhaps they were not able to negotiate and had to wait for a few simple words from their boss today.

As many posters have said Europe has lost interest in Brexit. It's yesterday's news. I am presently watching France2 evening news. The format is 7/8 items as a teaser then those items are looked at in more detail. Tonight NO MENTION of May in Florence in the teaser although the London Uber story was one of them.
As I type we are 30 minutes in and they are presently covering a story from Greenland.

The 20.00 News is still a very important in France a little like it was in Britain 10/20 or was it 30 years ago. If my memory is correct at 22.00 a very large audience tuned in to BBC or ITV NEWS AT TEN.

    UPDATE.
The news has finished with NO mention of May, Brexit or Florence although the London Uber story got a few minutes.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.
