Ordered 1, received 2.

I ordered a small item (cost £7) from a seller on Amazon.
The package has arrived, and it contains 2 of the items.
The online order summary clearly states "1 of", but the receipt enclosed with the items states "Qty. 2", and "SINGLE-PACKAGE SHIPMENT".
Since I only ordered one, where do I stand with the second one?
Can I treat it as an unsolicited gift?

No. Unsolicited goods are goods that are sent with no prior request from the recipient. You did place an order and the seller simply made an error in sending you the 2nd item
As it only cost you £7, it probably cost the seller far less than this and when you contact them to advise them of what happened, I wouldn't be surprised to find that they simply tell you to keep it.
If they don't, ask them for a prepaid label for you to return the extra item back to them.0 -
Can they insist I return it at my expense?0

Thats usually to do with orders that are fulfilled by amazon and sounds like amazon have meant to return it to the vendor but have sent it to you by mistake. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Have received a reply which, in broken English, says "It's OK. Have a good day."
I'm taking that to mean I can keep it.0 -

Well the invoice is addressed to me, and says the items were shipped from Bedfordshire.0 -

I would assume the same as you, that they're telling you to keep it.Bedsit_Bob wrote: »Well the invoice is addressed to me, and says the items were shipped from Bedfordshire.
Not sure what you're meaning by the above. If it says fulfilled by amazon next to the item when ordering, then the seller would have sent these items to amazon - so that they are stored in one of their fulfilment centres (of which bedfordshire is one I believe) and if they did sell, it would be amazon staff picking, packing & sending the order.
The vendor overstock is typically used when an item has been listed for a considerable time & hasn't sold - amazon don't want to be taking up storage space on items that arent selling. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
