Run a copy of Windows XP inside a virtual machine?

That sounds like a good idea - I'll have a dig round to see if it's feasible.

There is no need for virtual machines etc using XP or anything else. Microsoft Money will work with Windows 10.

Try this page https://techjourney.net/microsoft-money-requires-internet-explorer-6-to-function-properly-error-in-Windows-10 for explanation.

No problems after the recent major Windows 10 features update (Version 1803) either?

Mine refused to load initially and I still have a sneaking suspicion it's going to do the same thing again. I also have two more PCs running Win10 on which MM steadfastly refuses to load, no matter what tweaks I try.

While it may be perfectly happy to run in Windows 10 (I don't know, I still think of 7 as being "new") it does no harm to be prepared for the future. Various versions of Windows have various compatibility modes, but the VM approach where it's actually running on a known supported version "feels" better even if it adds a level of complexity and slowness.

I have been running Microsoft Money 2000 on various PCs and laptops and OS since it was released and it has always worked fine. Currently running well on Windows 10 64-bit but it is starting to feel a little clunky.

Is it worth 'upgrading' to Money 2005? Was Money 2005 a major improvement?

If I rename the Microsoft Money folder in Program Files to something like Microsoft Money 2000 would that preserve my 2000 programme so that installing Money 2005 doesn't overwrite it (so that if it doesn't work out for me I could uninstall Money 2005 and then simply rename the 2000 folder back to its original name)?

Thanks in advance for any advice / opinions.

Renaming the MM2000 folder would help - but what about all the MM2000 registry entries which would probably get overwritten when you installed MM2005? These would get removed if you uninstalled MM2005...

Yes, probably easiest to do multiple backups of the data, install the new version, see how it goes, then if you don't like it, uninstall it and re-install 2000. Presumably you still have the installation media if you've used it on several systems over the years?

It'll be interesting to hear what you think. I'm still using Money 2000 on Windows 7, which is fine for the limited amount of stuff I do with it, and have never quite had the guts to try the "new" version.

That problem wouldn't exist when I re-install Money 2000, would it?

Indeed I do still have the installation CD,

I have tried searching web for reviews but haven't managed to find anything useful such as genuine user reviews, all I could find were reviews from companies which basically repeated the original sales blurb. The few screenshots I found look very similar to Money 2000 but with a cleaner, more modern UI.

As you have mentioned, Money 2000 works very well and does everything I need it to do. I am torn between "if it ain't broke..." and wanting to see if 2005 does it better. I may just take the plunge and install Money 2005. I will update here if I do install it.
