Could you write a spreadsheet that could.....
    - download and process bank statements for multiple accounts
    - download investment prices (now it need a free tool)
    - manage regular bills and payments
    - categorising transactions
    - transfers between accounts
    - 100s of different reports covering income , expenditure, investment performance, assets, historical values etc
    - handle foreign currency transactions
    - financial planning
    - generate reports of tax relevent transaction
    etc etc

The answer is probably yes but it would take a deep knowledge of excel and a long long time.

I have been running MsMoney since April 1999, the data held by MsMoney includes every single banbk and investment account financial transaction and investment price over that time period.

Ms Money is fantastic and sadly there is no equivalent still being supported and developed. However it still works fine.

Have a look a screen or two down this page for the UK version. Note that the UK and US versions are incompatible.

If you want to download investment prices into Money look here.

Thanks. I have been using it for a good few years now but could not find a copy of the .exe file in case I need to reinstall it.

It's the Money2005-UK-QFE2.exe file at the bottom of your link if anyone else wants it.

The investment price app looks interesting although I have almost got used to manual input after all these years!

The biggest problem in switching away from MS Money for me is that there doesn't seem to be a way to extract the decades of data to use in something else.

Maybe I could do the same in a spreadsheet, but it would be far less suitable for the task, not least because the storage of transaction-based data is more suited to a database than a spreadsheet. I use Excel for storing a summary of stuff, some of which I don't put in Money, but it wouldn't be suitable* for the transactions.

ETA* - just to clarify, I'm not saying it isn't possible to do it with Excel, just that it's not the best way to do it.

    Try this:
    * disconnect the charger from the mains
    * remove the battery from the laptop
    * reconnect the charger to the mains to give power to the laptop
    * see if the laptop will power up now

I had a very old laptop which would work only when the battery was removed!

Obviously don't put the laptop on top of anything which could contact the now-unprotected connectors inside the battery department.

That's not true, 5 years ago I switched to MacBook and so needed to find an alternative to MS Money. I plumped for iBank (now Banktivity) and had no problems exporting the 10+ years of data from MS Money and importing it into the new app.
