Starbuck used coffee grounds

Don't know if this is the correct place BUT when I was in Starbucks today (in house at Borders Bookshop) I saw that they are giving away packets of used coffee grounds for adding to the compost or direct onto plants.
As I use my own used grounds for this I thought it was a very useful idea for what must be their huge amount.
Will post this in the Freebies board too so maybe one will get deleted!0 -
There may well be an added bonus too. Some fairly recent research suggested that a thick border of used coffee grounds put around vulnerable plants almost always deterred slugs and snails from crossing it. Coffee has a complicated chemical structure, as anybody like me who gets hyper on just two small cups will verify.
Worth trying for things like hostas, I would have thought, and if not a deterrent in your garden, you won't have wasted your time as it simply an organic mulch.0 -
ive been using it in th garden for a couple of years its excellent BUT my fave use is making play dough. add a bit of flour and oil and its absolutely wonderful, the kids love it and it has a great texture lovely soft hands after!0

I was trawling the Net the other day looking for free stuff and discovered that Starbucks are giving away their used coffee grounds for use as compost. They will either leave bags outside the shop or its probably best to go in and ask for some.
Sorry if this has been posted already.0 -
Yep Starbucks are still doing it, it's in their summer magazine this year. It advises that as coffee is quite acidi, to add dry grass or leaves in the compost with it. Handy tip about slugs...........I'll have to get some more as todays went on the compost heap!
