Boo to new scrappage scheme

I have got a 14 year old Ford that is worth £500 and keep thinking I should replace it.
I get it serviced and MOT'd once a year and it has never let me down.
The depreciation on any new Ford has got to be well over £2000 in the first year so why would I want to go for this scrappage scheme?
When I do change it I will get a 'new' one year old car that has suffered up to 30% depreciation like the last time I bought a car!
This is our predicament also (15 years old though, starting to rust around the edges).
I was looking at around £10K for a year old Fiesta Zetec for the missus. Then this £2K thing came up, so I took a look , and the RRP is close to 15K (for the 1.0). It's still not worth it, still better to get the slightly older one (and not pay £140 per year tax!)0 -

I had a 'modern Korean box' this time on Motability. I wanted a Ford C-max to replace the last one, but Ford increased the deposit to more than I could afford, for a lesser model with a smaller engine. They stopped supplying the 2.0 TDci which was my previous lease. So I took a Tucson for a deposit I could afford and it is an improvement over the C-max.
Somebody may be able to explain why a Hyundai made in the Czech Republic, is a lot less expensive than a Ford manufactured in Spain.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Are these Korean boxes from the north or south?...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Sounds like a good plan, with the exception every £1k car started off as a much more expensive one. If no one buys new there will be no £1k cars to buy in the near future.0
