And thanks to the AMC's bloated credit hire charges, you can be safe in the knowledge you're doing your own bit to inflate the cost of car insurance for everyone, not just your own.
Well sue me for not knowing the best road to go down.

Then again, i did come here asking for advice & there were a section of the forum who said i should go through my own insurance & this is the outcome of that ... Auxillis, who are now getting panned by the forum & saying i should 1) have gone with the third party instead or 2) should switch to going through the third party

But the funny part about this is when the third party called me saying they wanted me to go through them yadayadayada they seemed a little stumped when i told them my insurers were using a company called Auxillis before they responded with .... oh, that's who we use.

So i would've ended up with Auxillis whether i went through my own insurer or whether i'd gone with the third party it seems.

I also specifically asked if i need to pay a single penny with this claim, including any potential hire car and i was told no not at all, so i'm not sure what cost i'm bumping up?

I think you did the right thing, that's what you pay for, but if you want to keep our premiums down when you get a call asking if you want to claim "whiplash" tell them to get lost.

The third parties company asked numerous times if i was ok.

I was a bit stiff for the next couple of days but that was it. By the Thursday/Friday i was ok. I'm not going to start making up stories how i was on deaths door. If i was properly injured and it had stopped me from working even for a day then fair enough, but it didn't stop me doing anything, i was just a bit sore so i wont be claiming anything as far as injury goes.

Something that i've just realised is that my MOT is due in a few weeks. What should be done here?

I know insurances are known to take a while to sort things. I don't want to pay for MOT and any work that may need doing (not sure if the trim sticking out would now make it a fail) on the Monday only for it to get written off on the Tuesday for example.

Also what if it's taken away & the MOT expires while it's away? They'd be unable to bring it back wouldn't they?

I'm reluctant to get it MOTd if it's going to be written off.

In the immortal words of Michael Winner in the eSure ad, "Calm down, dear" ;)

I think the point that people are trying to make is to be careful with Accident Management Companies. There is at least one case on here where a claimant is having to go to court to defend how much is spent. A plaintiff in a damages claim has a legal responsibility to keep their costs as low as practicable. AMCs make a lot of money by charging defendants for using their cars, or from car hire.

It might be prudent to query what the daily hire rate will be and compare it to a retail hire rate, and ask questions if they are more expensive. Be wary of them giving you a super nice car that is not equivalent in type to yours. If they give you a flash motor, ask them if they are charging the other side the same rate as the equivalent of yours and if not, why not. You need to show due diligence in case the defendants decide they want to challenge the cost of your claim.

Finally, be prepared to be taking calls from AMC for years about your accident and the pay out that's waiting for your injuries. Putting any and every contact number you have given on Telephone Preference Service will reduce the number of calls but not to zero. Some of the callers are belligerent and will argue that you opted out in their case.

If the hire car is free, and i mean properly free with no small print costs, then i'd take it. I did ask if it's free, will i have to pay a single penny and i was told no.

Though if the small print is that it's free unless i use it or whatever other silly clause that they've chosen to not tell me about since i asked if it's free then i don't want it & will manage without it.

Sure it'll be easier with one but i can manage without one.

From what I've heard, the catch is that if the other party does not pay for the car hire for any reason then they will pursue you for the charges which could be substantial.

There is a lot on Honest John about this.

This is just one thread on this issue:

It's foolish to be wise after the event.

If you've signed anything that states it is a credit hire, then you might end up having to cover the shortfall between what the third party pays and what the AMC charges.

    Hello,

All Auxillis customers are provided with a free Credit Protection Policy. This policy ensures that the cost of any hire vehicle, vehicle repairs or legal costs (should the third party insurer not pay or the case go to court) are covered, indemnifying the customer. As you would expect, where a customer has been untruthful about the accident or does not assist in the recovery, this cover is suspended.

We have protocol agreements in place with over 70% of UK motor insurers so that hire and repair charges are settled quickly at agreed rates, meaning almost all claims are settled. Although accidents may appear to be straight forward with regards to who was at fault, the other party or the third party insurer may not accept liability and a very small percentage of cases can end in litigation (which are occasionally mentioned on forums). Auxillis manage this process on behalf of the customers, making it as straightforward as possible.

    Kind Regards,

    Auxillis Online Team
