It's 97% the same as freesatfromsky

Good stuff - that's a vast improvement. Channel 5, for example, used to be encrypted so unavailable without a card.

This is what I am going to get when I leave Sky Q:
    https://uk.humaxdigital.com/product/hdr-1100s/

Figured out how to set it up: I need a new LNB to suit Freesat:
    https://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/lnb.html

    - fitted after removing the Sky LNB.

I have been quoted £100 for supply & fit, plus rectify the Sky engineer's initial cable work, laid through a wall, around 3 interior walls and 2 doorframes. Should have been run through the loft and down to a dedicated plate in the wall, behind TV & equipment.

If your Sky dish has 2x cables into the Sky box, it will be able to work with this Humax box, to record 2x programmes while watching another. A single - cable setup from an older Sky box, will probably only be able to record one at a time.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Did you not get a six port Hybrid LNB installed when you had Sky Q installed?

Re the loft my understanding is Sky won't insure their installers to go in lofts.

Not just Sky installers....had an independent installer in recently to sort out a rooftop aerial problem...in conversation he told me that he won't go into lofts now because the insurance cover is just too expensive!

You can either buy a dedicated PVR (Humax or similar) and record on that, or use any hard drive or flash drive connected to the USB port, if your smart TV allows that.
Once you cancel your Sky sub, the PVR functions on the Sky+ box will cease to work, nor will you be able to access existing recordings, as the decryption software will no longer function.
Not always true - the trick is:
1 remove your sky card. Box will still work on the free channels. If Box connected to internet or phone line, remove connections.
    2 cancel your sky subscription
3 keep card out of the box for 3 months
4 after 3 months, put card back in box, on encrypted channels EG Sky1, there will be the notice: the card needs to be paired to the box (It has gone to sleep) - after a couple of days, the banner will change to "you need to subscribe to watch this channel" (it has woken up!)
5 You should then be able to record & view any unencrypted recordings - due to your card, not receiving it's "Turn off recordings" signal.
True, older recordings from EG Sky1, will not be viewable - but everything else will be.
