Oh no, more choices. So with a FreeSAT box I get far MORE channels (basically same price £179 ish). It easily connects to Sky cables.
I do not ???????? need to mess with dish, ie realignment ? It is WiFi, therefore I dont need to run an ethernet cable (Tv & router are in different rooms.
Thanks all for helping me to get thrted. Wish I had kept my 4 VCRs !

I don't think Freesat gives loads more channels than freeview. Broadly comparable, only minor differences. If you want to know take the sky viewing card out and see what you get. Very close to what you will get with no Sky box

No need to touch the dish.

I connect my box to the router (also in a different room) by power plug. Slightly more reliable than wifi IMO.

What is/how much, is a power plug ? A lot of the Freeview/Humax ones seem to need some sort of dongle/£30 to connect by wifi. They are ethernet only

    These

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Powerline-Configuration-Required-TL-PA4010KIT-V1-20/dp/B01BECPIMC/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_147_bs_lp_tr_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=T4MMPV71JA5VE2386ED2

One plugs into the mains by your router and connects to it via an ethernet cable, the other one plugs into the mains by your Humax Freesat/Freeview box and connects to it with another ethernet cable.

Very simple and works very well (much more reliable than wifi, especially if others are using the wifi in the house)

There are other makes which I'm sure will do the job just as well.

If you want to extend the wifi into the room that has your TV in it, then this one may be the better option. You can still connect the Humax in by ethernet.

Whatever you decide, don't go to Currys/DSG. Go to Richer Sounds for better service and price, and a very good value 5 year warranty.

You do not. Same dish, same satellite, same alignment, same 2 cables, different box.

If you have a working aerial, and a working satellite dish, you have a choice between Freeview (aerial) and Freesat (satellite). If you want to add 'internet' to those two things, to slightly simplify, they turn into YouView (aerial) and Freetime (satellite).

Freeview/Youview boxes tend to be cheaper than Freesat/Freetime boxes just because there are more around.

Certainly if WiFi swings it for you that's what to go for, but I'm sure, by now, if you're buying new, there must be Youview boxes with WiFi too.

Freesat gets loads more than Freeview. I'm not saying they're wothwhile. Now that Freesat has 'Dave', they're broadly comparable for the main channels.

NO. If you take the Sky card out of a sky box, you'll only see 'unencrypted' channels. That's absolutely not the same lineup as you'll get on Freesat, nor freesatfromsky.

Freeview channel line-up (depends very much on location and transmitter watched). The numbers are UP TO:
Freeview offers 70 TV channels, 15 HD* channels, and more than 30 radio stations.
    https://www.freeview.co.uk/channels-at-your-address

    freesat
    https://www.freesat.co.uk/channels
    200 TV and Radio channels
    with 13 in high definition

You need to decide if your aerial will do enough for you or if the channel offering is too limited, so satellite is better for you.
Once that decision is made, move onto which box make, disk size etc.,.

It's 97% the same as freesatfromsky. According to Wikipedia, these are the only extra channels you get on freesatfromsky (as compared to a cardless Sky box):
    • Local TV channels
    • Insight HD
    • Motorsport.tv
    • Sony Channel
    • Sony Channel +1
    • Sony Movie Channel
    • Sony Movie Channel +1

In other words very little as three are duplicates.

You could leave the Sky box on for satellite and watch Freeview, too, via an aerial. We did that when we left Sky (but did return).
