Well a non frivolous complaint can cost the bank several pounds if it goes to the ombundsman, so it's very common to get £50 cash for a complaint from the bank to close it.

Yep - I'm not really that way inclined if it is truly financial services ('tis on the stock market for example) then fair enough.

But I suspect the raison d'etre for the exceptions is potential for recycling cash ie on cash backs which aren't a purchase, or bouncing £100 (say) back & forth into your (say) Betflares or P2P account.

I see that, but like you, buying car insurance is a purchase, not a recyclable deposit, so would've thought it qualifies.

I may be getting soft IMOA, I let Newcy BS off on a coq up the other day, too.. :o

    Fair enough, your choice.

My last cash back payment was the 14/08, thought their might be an issue but was hoping it would resolve itself. I'll give it until after the bank hol and then endure their CS. 😑

Yup, pretty much the same for me.

Live chat for online banking said its not soemthing they could deal with. A secure message was responded to within a day saying that it was being transferred to the specialist team dealing with the promotion, that was yesterday so I'll see what the response is in the next couple of days.

Might be £50 in it, you never know.....

My test was at Aldi. I never do cash backs either, but the lady in front asked for cb & got some, which:
    A) I didn't know Aldi did..
    B) ...reminded me I need a few bob, too, and
C)...it'd test the cb on cb..

but no go from HSBC. :(

Thanks. Its just someone earlier suggested cashback worked but I didn't want to be wasting my time asking for some over the next few days if it doesn't track the 2%

Have fun trying to resolve it on the phone, they are denying the offer exists and are claiming its a scam!
