HSBC debit card incentive

HSBC have made the checking to see if you got the 2% incentive per debit a PITA, so you won't want to hear (see) this if you're choice was to not bother checking....

...but I have found I didn't get the rebate on a £290 debit. It was eligible but no £5.80 credit within the advertised 5 days (last week).
Have brought it up with their CS (in the Phillipines...) who once he was able to understand the issue, 'brought it up with the appropriate department'.

When asked which department that is, he said 'ahhhh... the one that deals with the incentive queries..'.

Ask a stupid question...

PS The phone rings out & plays music while you're holding plus numerous recorded apologies, for that long... you'll wonder if it was worth it for £5...

Anyway - waiting corrective action.

No, all seems to have tracked for me.

In some ways crediting each individual transaction as a separate rebate seems very long winded, maybe it's a tactic to make it less easy to spot when you have exceeded the £500 limit,

If that was a subtle way of suggesting that may be the cause, I had recognised the possibility: The debit was on 2nd of August... so it was a dead easy check - just a couple of transactions then month-to-date, and the one in question by far the biggest, so no way it exceeded the £10 limit... in fact I'm not even close today (15th) when I checked if HSBC had corrected it already ... fat chance. :(

As I understand it Visa do the admin for them, so there may be some question about whether they agree with you that it was an eligible £290 debit.

I've been getting it on all my purchases using the card, up to the limit. That has included contactless, chip and pin and online retailers.

As a test I made a payment to a credit card using my debit card number. I usually pay all my credit cards with faster payments or DDs. That one hasn't paid out - but then I didn't really expect it to.

What type of payment did you make? Was there any possibility of Visa confusing it for something else?

Do you think they would pay out for purchasing car insurance with direct line? Within their t&c they advise it's not applicable for gambling transactions, financial service payments such as credit cards or insurance, cash withdrawals or card to card payments. So reading that I'm not 100% if Direct Line car insurance would fall under financial service payment. Anyone tried car insurance and got the cash back?

And, mine stopped tracking last week.

I'm awaiting a response to a secure message.

PS just for the record I'm not very subtle....

Car insurance is a purchase so I'd hope it would track, my car tax did.

I've tried a p2p investment to see if that qualifies, would make it very easy if it did but I think that's probably not going to work.

I only got the email last week despite the offer running from 1 July 2017. I don't normally use the HSBC debit card but if they were going to offer this 3 mth deal it would have been nice to actually get the 3 months rather than informing customers when it was nearly over

    Cashback in stores?
Never use the facility but in this instance it would be silly not to

It didn't work on a cash back when I used it to test the theory, so I'll be pleased to get feedback that it works for you.

I finally got an answer (that I find hard to believe) on my £5.80 incentive - disallowed as it was a financial service transaction, it was car insurance... Again, I'll be pleased to get feedback that it worked for you..

It's nothing like their examples stated in the financial services exceptions... and invited me to complain if I wasn't happy, but I couldn't be bothered with a battle for a one off £6.
