Amazon Prime warning

Options
Not sure which thread to post this on so feel free to move.
I found that Amazon had 'renewed' my Prime membership @ £79 on 7th August. Odd thing is I have never had or elected to have Prime and no pre-warning. I immediately went on to webite and cancelled it for a ull refund.

Howerver, chatting with friends yesterday, they too had the same happen to them last week.

Please everyone who has resistered to shop with Amazon check to see if your Prime account has been activated and your account debited.

I did the free trial a couple years ago and without realising got charged 76 quid for the year, I got a big tax return around the same time so didn't even notice it go out of my account. When it came to Christmas I used it loads and just thought they had some kind of deal on where I could get same day delivery etc. Anyway, when I finally realised I had actually paid for it I wrote a sh*tty email to them and they refunded me the the £76 which I wasn't expecting haha. It was in my account the next day

Lots of threads about Amazon Prime if you use the 'search' facility.

You say they 'renewed' your subscription.
Didn't you notice the first payment go out of your account a year ago?

It's sensible to check all entries on your accounts, regardless of how busy your accounts are.

    Actually, this ^^^^ wasn't necessary.
They would have refunded it anyway even if you'd asked politely.

This (imho) shows how good Amazon customer service is:

Saw my friend yesterday who was annoyed with herself because she'd (knowingly) taken a free Prime trial out when ordering some last minute Christmas stuff and had forgotten to cancel the free trial within the 30 days.

I told her it was refreshing that she acknowledged that it was her fault rather than Amazon's  and suggested she drop them an email explaining what she'd done (it was only a couple of days outside the deadline) and ask nicely if they'd consider refunding the £49 and cancelling the Prime subscription.

She did so this morning and rang me to say that Amazon rang within minutes of her sending the email to say they would cancel Prime for the year and refund the £49 back onto her credit card.

    How good is that? :T

So, she's going to treat me to coffee and cake next time we're out. :D
This is obviously an old post of mine as it has the old Prime price - but it does show that you don't need to send a sh*tty email to get a refund.

I tried a search but nothing came up. I have NEVER subscribed to Amazon Prime so no payment has ever been made to them before

Given that the title contains the word "warning" I would have thought a quick glance at the list of boards would have made the right one to post on pretty obvious (big hint, it's the one above this board).

You don't recall signing up for Prime/ free one month trial but you, or someone who you allow to use your account, have done. If this is the first annual premium taken then look at your orders from a month prior - look for the point from which you started to receive free next day deliveries. Amazon don't enrol customers into Prime - customers check a box and do it themselves, though I get the distinct feeling you won't believe me.

The threads I posted the links to above are full of posters who insist they didn't sign up to Amazon Prime.

It is very easy to click a button on Amazon which signs you up for the trial (and subsequent billing) without realising.
