Poll changes

Options
Hi everyone

We've made some changes to the way forum polls work.
  • We've removed the option limit - you should now be able to include more than 10 options in your polls
  • Threads with polls on should now be bumped up to the top of the board each time someone votes, even if they haven't posted on the thread.

Have a play around, let us know what you think.

Share your polls with us here so we can have a look and join in :)

So even the most pointless poll will clutter up the top of the board, even if it's way out of date and nobody's posted anything new? Why is that?

The most useful change would be to prevent new joiners from setting up a poll until they've made a certain number of posts (ten?). It's often happened that they make their first post a poll because they thought that was the way of asking a question. (Though I haven't seen quite so many lately, maybe something has changed to prevent that?).
  • Hi,

We're all very different on the Forum. Someone's idea of pointless may be someone else's idea of useful. If you feel any content could work better on a different board feel free to send the link to the board guides for the board it's currently on and they'll take a look.

    Thanks!

    Andrea :)

Sure, that's understood. But if no one's posted on a thread for months, I would figure that was a clue to how useful it was; still we'll see whether it creates a problem.

As regards my second para, I was assuming that if you can prevent people posting links till they'd made a certain number of posts, you could prevent them creating a post during that time. But it may not be as simple as that; very little is.
  • Absolutely Biggles, we're always looking at ways to help site users get their questions answered. This may work for some subject areas, it might not for others. Even if it's not useful, it will have been a good test to find out :)
