HoF would have just sent the bag to the manufacturer anyway, so why not contact HoF, explain what has happened and that the manufacturer has confirmed the fault, and request a refund? If necessary, contact the manufacturer to return the nag to you so you can return it to HoF (if HoF request this).
Do you have confirmation from the manufacturer in writing? (Email is fine).0 -

If they deem the item is faulty, they can repair or replace OR refund. The option is theirs.
But the OP could request cash just couldnt insist0 -
They cannot repair or replace as they have discontinued the range
In your first post you said:It would actually cost me less to buy the a replacement from HofF than the designer direct
Is this a case of wanting a refund, and then being able to purchase the bag again at the cheaper price?0 -

No I can have a different bag. However it would be cheaper overall for me to buy the bag from HofF rather than the manufacturer direct.
There are no stocks of the original bag, my research suspects it has been quietly recalled as it is a common fault.
If I knew this prior, I would have gone straight to HofF, but I didn't and I had emailed the manufacturer for advice who immediately asked me to return it to them for assessment.0 -

Then the only two options you have available are:
1. Accept the voucher and purchase a bag direct from the manufacturer.
2. Ask for the bag to be sent back along with a written copy of the fault and take that to HoF.0 -

Out of interest why did you go the manufacturer first, most peoples thoughts would have been to go back to the retailer0 -
