  • Hi I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but it might be worth bearing in mind when doing price comparisons?
    I just spoke to BG about the upcoming increase (50% in my case from the amazing MSE collective fix to Standard or HomeEnergy Secure tariff!) and they have said that "Senior Customers" will receive a £75 credit on each fuel to slightly offset the increase. I'm not sure if by 'senior' they mean age or how long I've been a BG customer but either way it's a £75 credit x2, £150.
    I'm just hoping that MSE can use their collective power to get another fix for us all, it really makes a difference! I for one would certainly be happy to pay an MSE subscription or contribution for their hard work and negotiating skills if it saves me money!

    No - it shouldn’t but just check the tariff details and work it out for yourself. Cash back comes from the suppliers. It is down to the cash back site to decide how much of the referral fee that it keeps for itself.

    Also I though you were exaggerating your price increase of 50% so I just logged into my MSE Collective Switch account to find that my current price plan is £643 annually which will go up to £961 after the fix ends (so a 50% increase for me too)


    All the potential alternative companies listed I have never heard off:


    OneSelect £695
    Green Network £697
    IRESA £701
    Economy Energy £702




    Hope MSE can get a collective switch in place ASAP
  • Has anyone been contacted by BG about an exclusive deal that doesn't appear on their website?

    I was quoted on a tariff called Home Energy Exclusive. Their projection on this tariff was still £40 pa dearer than my choice of Eon which was the cheapest of the big 6 for me in the West Mids.

    Breeze had bigger savings but I am wary of smaller/newer companies after disasters with First Utility etc.

    Quidco are offering £60 cashback for Npower again. Personally, I'd go through Top Cashback and claim the difference. TCB seem to be a lot more reliable IMO.

  • Regarding Quidco and topcashback, I have never used these, probably it's stupid not to have, but I never have. It looks a useful backup option if MSE don't manage to get a collective switch together by next week.


    Are they easy to use? Ie, register, follow their links to eg Npower, look at tariffs, decide to go ahead and sign up... and the cashback appears in your account as promised?


    Any advice from previous users would be helpful, thanks.

    Surely the more people who bail out of the collective deal before they need to weaken MSE's bargaining power.

    You can always leave switching right up to the last moment and there will be many companies with an eye on our accounts!

    I do feel a little disappointed that having made the major decision to go dual fuel and switch that I feel like I am about to be left to my own devices again.

    I would certainly not go to an unknown/small supplier so appreciate comments here about companies like Eon and Npower if BG continue to be so expensive.

    Come on MSE, please come up with something, even if it not nearly as competitive as before!

    Why do you feel disappointed? There are loads of collective deals around at the moment: you just have to sign up for them. Whether they are still good value is a different matter. MSE is not a charity: it was making £Ms out of collective deal referral fees. I say ‘was’ as the market has now changed. Ofgem has taken the shackles off suppliers. Suppliers can now offer discounts to encourage existing customers to stay, and some pay existing customers a referral fee if they attract another customer. There has also been a big increase in cash back offers through sites such as Topcashback.
