  • Doubly disappointing if the EDF collective switch is dearer (£8pm for me) than clicking on EDF one or two days ago on a non-collective tariff!

I know I am new to this stuff ..... but surely that can't be right? What have I missed?

Hi New Forum member here! I am also on the MSE CEC deal that ends 3rd OCT.

After reading through the 6 pages here (some great advice) I decided to check the MSE CEC this morning to see if there was any news about the Collective Switch 8. It took some searching down the list, from the cheapest getting dearer, to find the Collective EDF Energy Switch.

2 things seemed a bit odd to me. 1) the switch was limited to 25,000 applicants. 2) That switch for me was £8 per month dearer than EDF's (non-collective) deal that was showing over the last few days which was very near the top i.e. near the cheapest on the list (sorted cheapest to dearest). The cheaper non-collective EDF deal has now disappeared. Should I have gone with that earlier deal? And, what's the best to do now?

Love to hear any observations on this.

I've been waiting for details before making a decision and wasn't expecting any news about the latest Collective Switch until tomorrow's MSE email. I've just logged into the CEC website and you are correct. The non-collective EDF tariff that was available a few days ago has disappeared (been withdrawn) and it was cheaper than this collective fix which is rather disappointing.

If I were to switch to this EDF collective, it would represent an annual duel fuel price increase of £264... from £1,060 to £1,324... an increase of almost 25%. The non-collective EDF tariff represented an price increase of around £170 for me, or a 16% increase overall.

I'll be giving this collective switch a huge swerve.

You haven't missed anything apart from a rigged energy market deliberately set up to rip-off customers
  • On Moneysupermarket, I have a deal to switch to EDF for a fixed tariff until January 2020. It's £70 more pa than this collective switch and has no exit fee.

Given that tariffs are unquestionably going to go up every year, I wonder is it worth going for?

Any downsides I'm not thinking of guys...?!
  • Any MSE staff like to comment on why the Collective EDF fix is dearer than what EDF were offering a day or so ago on a non-collective switch?

This is what I'm debating too.

Add me to that list aswell
EDF working out £70 more expensive for me compared to someone like "bulb"

So MSE have finally published their collective switch and the decision is ours - do we take it or leave it ???

It is way, way down the CEC listings here. Even filtering to show only Big Name Suppliers there are six offerings above it. nPower is about 10% cheaper.

    What a dud.

Why go for the big names ? doesn't necessarily mean better.

Huge disappointment on the pants collective deal. Wish I had fixed it a few days ago now.

I'd be interested to see how many people actually sign up for it. I can't see anyone coming off the existing BG collective going for it over any of the other current offerings. Whilst there may be some newer customers, surely the people registered for the new collective are those savvy enough to switch regularly who would go for the cheapest available.

The only thing I can envisage is that when negotiations into a collective started EDF where the cheapest Big 6 supplier around so CEC attempted to negotiate something cheaper. Surely this sort of thing is only worthwhile by getting the cheapest supplier to be even cheaper?
